Colin Clark Under Review by MLS for Gay Slur Towards Ball Boy

Nicholas GossMar 25, 2012

Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark is under review by the MLS after he said a gay slur at a ball boy during his team's 2-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Friday.

Clark took to Twitter on Saturday to apologize for his actions:

"

I'd like to offer a sincere apology to everyone who watched the game, especially the ball boy for whom I used awful language towards.

"

I didn't mean to disrespect anyone and am sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. It's not who I am and it won't happen again.

— Colin Clark (@cOlin_cLark7) March 24, 2012"

The MLS must suspend Clark for a few matches to help him learn a lesson. Four to five matches is what I would give him.

Gay slurs have absolutely no place in our world, and this is a serious issue that the MLS needs to come down hard on. This kind of abuse, especially toward a kid, is not something that can be tolerated.

No matter how sorry Clark is for his actions, he must be held accountable for his mistake. The MLS could either fine Clark a lot of money or suspend him, as Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated points out:

"

Not saying Colin Clark should be fined $50K, but punishment needs to be severe. Easier to do so in MLS thru suspension than fine.

— Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl) March 25, 2012"

By sending a message to Clark with either a large fine or a lengthy suspension, the MLS will show its players, coaches and all other people associated with the sport that gay slurs and other hurtful language will not be accepted.
