10 Most Dysfunctional World Football Clubs
10. Blackburn Rovers
1 of 10It's one thing for Venky's to use Blackburn Rovers as a marketing ploy—it's another to disregard the functions of running a football club.
André Villas-Boas will be wishing that he had owners like Venky's because Steve Kean should have been sacked ages ago.
Junior Hoilett should have been sold during the January transfer window because there is no way he's going to extend his contract.
Why hasn't Venky's brought quality footballers to the club?
Losses of £18.6 million this season for a club that could be relegated just add insult to injury.
9. Fenerbahçe
2 of 10Fenerbahçe have a loaded squad, so it makes no sense why they would allegedly attempt to fix matches.
The sad reality is that Fenerbahçe probably would remain title contenders without the need to fix matches.
It's like Marseille's match fixing scandal when they spent so much money building up a super squad.
Kind of defeats the purpose of spending that much money on players if you're going just fix matches.
8. Fiorentina
3 of 10What is going on at Fiorentina?
Forget about buying mediocre players like Rubén Olivera—why didn't they cash in on Riccardo Montolivo?
The Violas went from SiniŠa Mihajlović to Delio Rossi, who doesn't seem to know what he is doing. In the space of several months, he's tried out a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-5-2 and a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Stevan Jovetić has been forced to carry Fiorentina on his back, and the 22-year-old has struggled when he's been marked tightly.
Can anyone explain to me why Fiorentina loaned out Khouma Babacar? You'd think if there ever was a time to start a teenager, it would be right now.
I bet he'd do a better job than Amauri.
7. Gold Coast United
4 of 10Clive Palmer, the billionaire owner of Gold Coast United, has been throwing his weight around.
He's the guy that cut the stadium's capacity from 27,400 to 5,000 and handed the captaincy to a 17-year-old making his professional debut.
He's also the guy that managed to get his team kicked out of the A-League.
6. Juventus
5 of 10Antonio Conte has fine-tuned Juventus into a tactically disciplined football side.
But it wouldn't be Juventus without a bit of controversy. Let's say Juventus lose three in a row—I wouldn't be surprised if they knee-jerk and sacked Conte.
Juventus were crippled by Calciopoli, and finally they're stable because of Conte.
My favourite Juventus story is Tiago locking former club president Cobolli Gigli in a toilet. Why did Tiago do this? To prevent himself from being sold to Everton.
5. Portsmouth
6 of 10In 2008, Portsmouth surprisingly won the FA Cup after a goal from Kanu.
Four years later, they are no longer in the Premier League and have gone into administration twice.
4. Rangers
7 of 10Craig Whyte's dodgy dealings have tainted the history of Rangers.
It's also left them in administration and ensured Celtic could potentially have a monopoly over the SPL for many years to come.
3. River Plate
8 of 10It must be humiliation to be an ardent River Plate supporter. Not only is the club in the Primera B Nacional, but Boca Juniors won the Apertura easily.
Loaning the prodigiously talented Manuel Lanzini to Fluminense, with the hope that the Brazilians would sign him, is an indictment on River Plate's economic instability.
2. Inter Milan
9 of 10The José Mourinho effect—where clubs suffer after he leaves—has left Inter Milan in tatters.
Without Mourinho to push the players, the team has lacked application and motivation.
Rafa Benítez, Leonardo and Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri haven't produced the same results as Mourinho.
Mauro Zárate has been terrible, Diego Forlán has been wrecked with injuries, Giampaolo Pazzini has forgotten how to finish, Dejan Stankovic is on his way out and Julio César isn't as commanding.
1. Chelsea
10 of 10If you're wondering why Romelu Lukaku isn't getting games for Chelsea, it's because André Villas-Boas never wanted him. Nor did he want Kevin De Bruyne.
You can only wonder what other issues Villas-Boas had with Chelsea management.
Villas-Boas had a vision, but he didn't have the personnel to carry it out and he lost the dressing room.
Another issue is Chelsea's ruthless owner, Roman Abramovich, who sacks managers for fun.
His biggest mistake was forcing José Mourinho out of the club because the Portuguese went on to win the UEFA Champions League—the holy grail for Abramovich.
Even though it's Abramovich's money, buying Andriy Shevchenko and Fernando Torres were terrible ideas even before they were bought. Allowing Gökhan Törewho is one of the most explosive dribblers in the world, to leave will turn out to be a major mistake.
Abramovich needs advisers that will give frank and fearless advice.
Not guys that will say: "Yes, boss, buying a deteriorating Torres for £50 million is economically sound and will work out."
