LA Clippers Match Warriors' Offer to DeAndre Jordan, Will Chris Kaman Be Moved?

Ryan RudnanskyDec 12, 2011

There were questions whether the Los Angeles Clippers would match the Golden State Warriors' offer for center DeAndre Jordan after the Chris Paul trade talks fell through.

Well, apparently they are still determined to keep the 23-year-old and have matched the Warriors' offer of four years, $43 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The Clippers had originally offered Jordan five years at $40 million, hoping to keep him for a better bargain.

But the Warriors pounced, with new ownership gearing for a potential playoff push with the up-and-coming center set to join an explosive offense led by guards Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry.

Despite missing out on Paul, the Clippers are showing their fans that they are focused on making the postseason for the first time since the 2005-2006 season.

Jordan showed true promise last season, averaging 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks, while exhibiting the ability to dunk with the best of them.

Jordan has been seen by some as a younger version of veteran Tyson Chandler, at least defensively in the post. Combined with superstar power forward Blake Griffin, he completes a young frontcourt that could be formidable for years.

Now that the Paul trade talks have ceased, the Clippers still have some promise, with shooting guard Eric Gordon also being one of their coveted pieces. They refused to trade him in a package for Paul.

As for veteran Chris Kaman, who has been productive when healthy, this could mark the end of his time with the Clippers.

Kaman has averaged 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in his career, but he played in just 32 games last season and is now an injury-prone 29-year-old.

The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz have all expressed interest in Kaman, per ESPN, but the ironic part of the Clippers matching the Warriors' offer for Jordan is that the Warriors may come calling soon.

The Warriors haven't had a defensive presence in the post for a long time, which has been the root of their struggles to get into the postseason throughout the years.

It basically took a miracle for them to get into the playoffs in the 2006-2007 season, and that's been the only time they've made the playoffs in the last 17 seasons.

There are certainly injury concerns with Kaman, but he's talented enough to draw plenty of interest with Jordan now reportedly locked up.
