NBA Trade Rumors: Trading for Dwight Howard Wouldn't Make Bulls Title Favorite
Trade rumors are heating up around Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, who becomes a free agent after this season.
Recently, reports have the Chicago Bulls as a sleeper candidate for the best center in the league.
But, given the apparent pieces it would take to land Howard, the Bulls would lose too much to be a team capable of winning the title.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, one general manager said "Chicago may tell Orlando to take any two players -- or three -- besides (Derrick) Rose."
That package would likely include Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng, who helped the Bulls get to the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
Sure, the combination of Rose and Howard would be a handful, but the New York Knicks proved last season that two superstars don't guarantee a run at the title.
On top of this, that doesn't solve the Bulls' shooting guard problems, which made life extremely tough for Rose in the playoffs. Without an off guard for teams to pay attention to, Rose will once again be double-teamed throughout each game.
There's also the likelihood that the Bulls would have to take on one of the Magic's bad contracts, which further stunts the ability to add quality pieces around the two superstars.
It's not necessarily a bad move adding Howard, but expectations shouldn't be so high right off the bat if the Bulls land him, especially if they give up a lot and hurt their cap space.
If the Bulls acquire Howard before the season, a title may be possible in two years, but it wouldn't be possible in one season given the likely trade scenario.
I'm just saying, if Howard lands in Chicago, the Bulls shouldn't hold a parade a la the Miami Heat.
