Week 12 NFL Picks: New York Jets in Desperate Need of Win Over Buffalo Bills
There is no way to put it gently, the New York Jets are in trouble, and every game from here on out will have strict playoff implications.
New York has had 11 days to sober up from the one-man show that was Tim Tebow last week, who single-handedly may have ended their season with an improbable 95-yard drive to win the game.
Gang Green will have to run the table if they want to have a shot at making the playoffs, something that won't be easy to do with how the Jets have played.
But first, the Jets have to win the first game of the rest of their season and that will be against the Bills.
Here's how the Jets can keep their season hopes alive.
Can the Jets Run the Table?
1 of 6So the biggest question is if the Jets can win the rest of their games which will be almost necessary to make the playoffs.
The Jets have four very winnable games remaining against the Bills, Washington Redskins, Chiefs and Dolphins.
The tougher games are against the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, both who either at this point or earlier in the season have struggled mightily and have had to deal with several crucial injuries respectively.
If you were to paint a picture-perfect scenario for your favorite football team to win it's last six games, this would be as good as you could ask for.
Jets Won't Win the Division
2 of 6After the New England Patriots pummeled the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, the Jets find themselves two games and a tiebreaker behind their division rival for first place.
Looking at the Pats easier schedule moving forward, there is no reason they shouldn't win 11-12 games. Even if the Jets win the remainer of their schedule, they will still be a tiebreaker out at best.
It's going to be wild card or nothing for New York if they want to try and return to the AFC Championship game for a third straight year.
The Bills Are a Dead Team
3 of 6The Bills were a team on the rise, starting off the 2011 campaign 3-0. They went on to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick as their franchise quarterback to team up with Fred Jackson, a combo that would give Buffalo a good offense for years to come.
Although that might pan out in the future, it isn't happening this season. The Bills have lost their last four of five games, including a 35-8 drumming at the hands of the 2-6 Miami Dolphins.
They look like a team deflated after an early season rise and I don't expect much out of them this week. Though it's hard for me to say I trust the Jets to come out motivated to win.
But after watching the Bills hideous performance in Week 11, they don't look like they can beat anybody right now.
A Little Offense Please
4 of 6Even after a stellar performance by their defense last week, the Jets just couldn't put enough points on the board to top the Denver Broncos last-minute, 95-yard touchdown drive.
This week, Mark Sanchez and the Jets' running game, whoever that might be, will have to show up if Gang Green wants to win. Right now, the one thing that's normally the staple of the Jets' offense is ranked 26th in the NFL.
Buffalo may be in trouble this season, but they can still put some points on the board. Even if they don't need to score much, the Jets still need to show themselves that they can play some offense and aren't a one-dimensional football team.
BLOCK!!!
5 of 6We can talk about Mark Sanchez and the ineptitude of the Jets offense, but truth is that the offensive line hads't played well at all.
Luckily for them, the Bills aren't a good defensive team in just about every aspect including their defensive line. It shouldn't be much work to give Sanchez and whoever is running the ball out of the trainer's room some space to make plays.
If the Jets' offensive line can do this, Mark Sanchez can't hide behind the vicious beatings he has been taken lately. Not that he's tried to do that, but he can be given a partial break because of the terrible play from his guys up front.
Prediction: Jets 23, Bills 20
6 of 6The Jets were fortunate to land this matchup with a seemingly unmotivated Bills team that has seen its season come crashing down.
Still, the Jets defense will be up against a tougher challenge than the one-dimensional Denver Broncos offense from last week. The Bills can run and pass the ball, but Gang Green's defense should be able to keep them at bay.
Sanchez will find he has more time to throw the ball against less pressure, and will finally get some relief from his rushing attack.
If all goes well, Nick Folk will be kicking a short field goal late in the fourth quarter to somewhat comfortably seal the deal for the Jets sixth win of the season.
One down, five more to go.
