WWE Survivor Series 2010 Results: 20 Things We Learned
Hello, Buzzers. Buzz is back.
Survivor Series is now over. I'm sure we all agree that it's not the same flagship pay-per-view we used to watch every year. Gone are the amazing elimination-style matches. Gone are the traditional feuds between great teams that we witnessed for years.
Moving on, we're only four weeks away from the next PPV, TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs.
In the following slides, I'll try to break down 20 things we learned from Survivor Series results.
All said and done, let the show begin.
1. Survivor Series Isn't a Traditional PPV Anymore
1 of 21
I guess we did learn this before the beginning of the PPV, but this is something that should be mentioned here.
For years, tag-team elimination matches made this PPV a special and unique event. We always witnessed great rivalries between two or more teams. But not this time.
In general, the PPV did have some decent matches. However, it was just like any other monthly PPV that could be given any name.
The only elimination tag-team match we had was Team Del Rio vs. Team Mysterio. Though the feud between the two is hot, but the team members were randomly thrown with no real rivalries.
Furthermore, rumors said that WWE didn't even have plans for this match, but they had to book it instead of a singles match between Mysterio and Del Rio due to Mysterio's injury. This might not be true, but still, the match didn't get a good buildup.
To summarize the whole thing, we can say that Survivor Series isn't the same PPV anymore. Its name and memories are the only things left.
2. Night Of Champions Isn't a Traditional PPV Anymore Too!
2 of 21
I know that this looks ridiculous and irrelevant, but allow me to explain my point of view.
We all know that the special thing about NOC was the fact that all titles were defended on this particular PPV.
However, all championship belts were defended on last night's PPV, too.
I guess it's better to keep gimmick PPVs special and not do similar things on other events.
But still, there might be nothing wrong here. I only thought it would be interesting to remind you about it.
3. Daniel Bryan Stole The Show Again
3 of 21
I'm officially a Daniel Bryan mark.
For the fourth PPV in a row, Daniel Bryan was able to put the best performance of the night. I guess many people agree with me here.
Whether it was a last-minute announced match or not, the fact remains that this superstar is amazing and never disappoints.
Giving him the US Title did bring back prestige to the belt.
From now on, I'll call any match involving the American Dragon as the match of the night beforehand.
4. Ted Dibiase Is Better Than We Thought
4 of 21
Now stop staring at Maryse and let's talk about Ted Dibiase Jr. for a while.
I'm not a fan of the guy and I still think that he's boring. But I also agree with people who say that he's misused by WWE.
Ever since he left Legacy, Dibiase was never given a proper story and feud other than Goldust. Even Goldust's story was just to have the Golden superstar bring the Million Dollar Title back to Ted Dibiase Sr.
However, the fortunate son proved that he can put a good match if given the right contest and feud.
Even though Daniel Bryan carried most of the match, but we should give credit for Dibiase for not letting us down.
5. John Morrison Is On The Rise
5 of 21
The Shaman of Sexy has finally prevailed.
John Morrison was another superstar who was able to put a good performance and grab the victory in the end.
For months, WWE were just throwing the parkur expert in random matches with no particular stories and feuds.
Week after week, it became more apparent that he was just added in matches where he can show some cool and jaw-dropping spots. In other words, he was added for entertainment purpose only.
During those matches, the Guru of Greatness never disappointed.
However, Morrison is finally booked in a legit feud against Sheamus that started few weeks ago.
Moreover, he was able to pull a shocking victory against the Celtic Warrior which will surely make people reconsider their thoughts about describing him as a stepping stone for Sheamus until Triple H's return.
6. Sheamus Is Slightly Losing Momentum
6 of 21
Unfortunately for the Celtic Warrior, it seems that his momentum has slowed down.
Ever since he lost his WWE Title to Randy Orton, Sheamus has been struggling to keep his status as a top superstar alive.
He was able to keep his momentum for a while, but it was obvious that this particular momentum will slow down for a while.
He found himself moving from a World Title feud to comedy segments and matches against Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, where John Morrison was interrupting every contest and attacking him in the end.
For now, it seems that Sheamus isn't the same. But I guess it will only be a matter of time before we see the potential rise of the Celtic Warrior again.
7. Kaval Will Do Less Jobbing In The Coming Weeks
7 of 21
Kaval is another superstar who was able to put an awesome performance in his match. He showed some amazing skills that made the match watchable.
Ever since he was announced as NXT 2 winner, Kaval has been struggling to find success on Smackdown. Unfortunately for him, he went on a weird losing streak for weeks.
This streak came to an end on Smackdown, when Kaval was finally able to beat the Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler. After the match, Kaval decided to use his title shot opportunity to challenge Ziggler for his title.
Just like all his other matches, Kaval fought with heart and put a tremendous effort but ultimately failed to win the match. However, it's fair to say that he was better than Ziggler. The Intercontinental champion wasn't able to keep up with the speed of Kaval.
Had Kaval won, I would have named him the superstar of the night beside Daniel Bryan.
Despite the loss, I guess the "World Warrior" is slowly climbing up the ladder. Don't expect him to continue jobbing in the coming weeks, and get ready to see him on top in many coming contests.
8. Dolph Ziggler Is Unlucky Against Indy Superstars
8 of 21
This looks off topic, but it seems true.
Dolph Ziggler might have won in this match, but Kaval was way better than him during the bout and carried most of it.
I felt at certain moments that Ziggler wasn't able to keep up with his speed. I heard he was suffering from an injury, but still, he should have done better than this.
Of course, we all remember his previous matches against another indy superstar. He was none other than Daniel Bryan. Ziggler suffered three consecutive losses against Bryan during their feud.
Ziggler is a promising superstar for sure and it's good to see him winning without the need of Vickie Guerrero's help. Let's hope he can look better in any future possible match against Kaval.
9. Alberto Del Rio's Next Feud Will Be Against Big Show Or Rey Mysterio
9 of 21
I still have to know if Alberto Del Rio was officially eliminated or not. He was knocked out by Big Show and never made it back to the ring.
Anyway, the match is now over and the Mexican Aristocrat should start thinking about his next feud.
I think that most of us agree that Del Rio's run until now is impressive. He did have some disappointing moments, but overall he's still great in singles matches.
His only problem is that he's not a good teammate and he shouldn't be put in tag-team matches anymore.
Anyway, from what we saw, it seems that his next feud will either be against Rey Mysterio or against Big Show.
His rivalry against Mysterio has been running for months. It's sure a hot feud, but Mysterio is suffering from an ear infection. This could stop the feud for a while.
But never mind, Del Rio's relationship with Big Show seems to be getting worse. This was obvious during the match. I won't be surprised to see them feuding very soon. I think they already planted the seeds for it to happen.
10. Big Show and Rey Mysterio Are Still Booked Strong
10 of 21
What can we say about those two superstars?
Rey Mysterio has never lost momentum since his return. He was able to cost Del Rio his first on-screen loss on Smackdown few weeks ago. He was the sole survivor beside Edge in the Smackdown vs. RAW match at Bragging Rights. And again, he was the sole survivor beside Big Show in last night's tag-team elimination match.
I don't know what's next for him. He might not participate in many matches due to his ear infection, but the master of 619 has never lost a step yet.
As for the Big Show, I guess we all know that words can't describe his ridiculous push he's been receiving for months. Every time we think that his push is over, WWE makes him look even stronger. Last night he eliminated three superstars out five by himself.
What can the largest athlete in the world do more?
I have no problem with his push, but WWE should make it worth. He should either put someone over to make him credible, or at least get a title shot to go on with the push.
Anyway, whatever happens next, those two superstars are currently on top.
11. Mid-Cards In The Traditional Match Didn't Benefit Much
11 of 21
The only good thing about this match was the fact that it had numerous mid-cards who could have benefited and received a push.
However, they did nothing more than being fillers in the match.
Now don't get me wrong. I know that Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes and Kofi Kingston had some good moments. But WWE failed to make them look worth.
I won't mention MVP, Tyler Reks and Chris Masters here because you know how useless they were in the match.
I'll end this slide with one statement: The match ended with the only two veterans as sole survivors. Enough said.
12. Lay-Cool Might Split Soon
12 of 21
After months of dominance, the era of Laycool finally came to an end at Survivor Series. At least for a while.
Michelle McCool and Layla failed to retain their titles against Natalya after McCool tapped out to the Hart Diva.
When Laycool became co-champions, many people expected their split to occur as soon as they lose the titles.
However, the "Flawless Ones" remained together even after their loss. No controversy occurred during the match, so there was no reason for them to split.
I expect them to get a rematch at TLC. Maybe then, they will break up after a certain misunderstanding that might lead to a fight and split. Or maybe they might get a rematch before the coming PPV which could also lead to their split.
Until then, get ready for more "flawless" segments, because they could be the last ones.
13. Natalya's Next Feud Might Be Against Beth Phoenix
13 of 21
Natalya finally won! And to make things even more exciting, the Glamazon has finally returned!
After months of continuous attempts by Natalya to grab the Divas Title, the Hart Dynasty (previously) Diva was finally able to "flawlessly" prevail and win her first title ever.
After the match. Laycool attacked Natalya from behind, but Beth Phoenix made a surprise return and saved the new champion.
After the bout, the two ladies celebrated together.
As I said before, I'm sure Laycool will receive a rematch at TLC or maybe before. I don't think Nattie will drop the titles back to the BFFs though.
Once she wins, I can definitely expect Beth Phoenix to be the next challenger for the butterfly title.
Now you might say that they're both face and it won't be a very hot feud if they collide. But I don't expect Beth to stay face for long. I guess she'll just turn on Nattie and challenge her to a title match.
This could be the best Divas feud in months if it happens.
14. Edge VS. Kane Is Far From Over
14 of 21
Given the fact that I like both superstars, I was a bit disappointed by this match. I expected better things from both superstars.
Anyway, I hope they have a better match at TLC.
Before the match, most people expected Kane to win at SS but then drop the title in a rematch at TLC.
Well, the match ended with a draw, but I guess we'll definitely see a rematch on the next PPV.
Who will win? Will Paul Bearer be involved? Only time will tell us.
15. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov Are Used For Comedy
15 of 21
We always knew this before, we all know this now and we'll always expect this in the future.
WWE decided to finally give those two mates a Tag-Team Title shot at Survivor Series.
However, as the match moved on, it became obvious that the two fellows were just added for comedy role. Now I'm not saying that the entire match was a joke, but what would you expect from Santino in any bout?
It's good to see those two on RAW in funny segments. But I still prefer to watch more serious matches on PPVs.
16. Nexus Won't End Anytime Soon
16 of 21
That's something we all know. But honestly speaking, I expected some controversy to break out during the tag-team match and during Wade Barret's match.
However, nothing happened and Nexus are still there.
I guess WWE will keep them around until Wrestlemania.
I have no problem with them, but I hope they have some refreshing and new feuds.
17. Miz Won't Cash In His Money In The Bank Contract Soon
17 of 21
For more than four months, Miz has been holding the Money in the Bank briefcase and he yet has to decide when to cash it in.
When Mr. Awesome first won the contract, we all expected him to cash it quickly. After some failing attempts at the first few weeks, Miz decided to keep the contract and don't rush the cash in.
Since then, he rarely mentioned the briefcase and went on to focus on other feuds.
However, in the final weeks heading into Survivor Series, he decided to tease a cash in possibility during the event. He even did this during the PPV itself hours before the WWE Title match.
The show is over and Miz is still holding the briefcase.
I guess this clearly shows that WWE aren't planning to make Miz cash in his contract anytime soon. It's obvious that they want the moment he cashes in his contract to be a surprising and shocking one.
I don't know when the Miz will use the contract, but it's definitely not happening in the next few weeks.
P.S. This was written prior to RAW episode.
18. John Cena Is Fired!
18 of 21
Many things can be said here, but I decided to leave it as it is.
Yes, the champ isn't here anymore! Actually, the "former" champ is fired!
After calling the match down the middle as he promised, Cena suffered the inevitable fate due to the stipulation of the match.
Unless you're a 10-year-old mark, you definitely know that he's not fired for real. With this said, we can expect a lot of things.
Honestly speaking, I liked the end of the match. I did expect some controversy during the match, and I wish we had one interference at least, but that's the end I wanted to see.
Now I can confidently say that a heel turn could be expected upon his return. Of course, I'm only giving predictions here and this might never happen.
I never expected Cena to turn heel during his run with Nexus because the direction of the story was obvious. Even before the match, he made it clear that he'll never give a cheap call no matter what happens. But I think he slightly screwed Barret at the end.
I wanted Cena to get fired because I thought it could be refreshing for him. His return should definitely be unique.
We've seen him return from an injury before, but we never saw him return from an expulsion.
So when will Cena return? Will he take a long time off? Will he return sooner than we expect? Could RAW GM re-instate him tonight on RAW?
Whatever happens, I only hope he doesn't return and have the same old and lame run he had for five years. If this happens, then I'll wish he was never fired.
19. The "Age Of Orton" Is Still On
19 of 21
I'm not bragging, but I realized that I'm good at predicting matches. Prior to the PPV, I wrote a preview article giving 10 reasons why Randy Orton will win. That's the second time in a row I give a right prediction in a preview article.
So the Viper was able to retain the WWE Title again.
Despite all the stipulations in the match, and despite all the odds that seemed to be stacked against him, Randy Orton was able to overcome all difficulties and prevail in the end.
After his win against Sheamus, many people didn't expect Orton to keep the title for a long time. He was even considered as a sidekick for Cena-Nexus story.
However, Cena is gone, and this means that Orton is the top face on RAW now.
I'm not sure if his feud against Nexus will continue, but whatever happens, Orton will be in the front seat this time and he won't be taking backseats for other stories anymore.
In other words, the "Age of Orton" is now in full motion.
P.S. This was written prior to RAW episode.
20. TLC Won't Have Many New Matches
20 of 21
If we take a look at the the outcomes of each match, we'll notice that most feuds are far from over.
With this said, expect TLC to have many rematches rather than new matches.
The re-matches I expect are the following:
Kane vs. Edge (definitely)
Randy Orton vs. Wade Barret (it seems possible)
Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio (it depends on Mysterio's ear infection but I guess he'll be fine)
Ted Dibiase vs. Daniel Bryan (it seems that they're not over with each others yet)
or Daniel Bryan vs. Miz (they could repeat their feud)
Kaval vs. Ziggler (I guess the feud will go on)
Morrison vs. Sheamus (Sheamus will definitely look for revenge)
Nataltya vs. Laycool (unless they do it before)
Of course, we won't have all these matches on the same card, but what I'm trying to say is that many feuds and rivalries are looking hot and they seem to be going on until TLC. This means that we won't have many new matches at the coming PPV.
Final Thoughts

This slideshow should have been posted earlier, but I had to postpone it due to some Internet connection problems.
Thanks for reading.
