Fantasy Football Week 6: Positional Power Rankings
The Fantasy Football Positional Power Rankings are a top-five list of each position based on weekly production and consistency. The numbers you see in the parenthesis are last weeks rankings so you can see exactly how the last week has affected their rank.
There were some serious upsets this week as some of the games elite players suffered injuries while others just failed to impress. Matt Forte and Miles Austin had breakout games after some letdowns, where do they rank?
The rankings are shaking up, how is your team stacking up?
Positional Power Rankings: Kickers
1 of 6
1(5) Nick Folk, New York Jets: The Jets offense did a good job of getting in field goal range, but they could only get in the end zone once. Luckily for them Folk was lights out, or else this game could have gone much differently for Gang Green. (2 20-29, 2 30-39, 1 50+, 2/2 XP)
2(N/R) Josh Scobee, Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars offense went nuts this week, well, nuts as far as the Jaguars offense is concerned. (1 30/39, 4 40-49, 3/3 XP)
3(N/R) Robbie Gould, Chicago Bears: Matt Forte was the only option on offense for the Bears since Todd Collins couldn't get anything going. Gould owners took advantage of the opportunity presented, but when Jay Cutler returns, they may not be so lucky. (1 20-29, 1 40-49, 1 50+, 2/2 XP)
4(1) Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons: Not his most productive week, but Bryant is still one of the best options in fantasy. (1 20-29, 1/2 30-39, 2/2 XP)
5(2) Mike Nugent, Cincinnati Bengals: Nugent didn't get too many opportunities thanks to an anemic Bengals offense, but he is still a solid fantasy kicker. (2 30-39, 1/1 XP)
on the cusp: Rob Bironas, Tennessee Titans; Jason Hanson, Detroit Lions; Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland Raiders; Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis Colts; Graham Gano, Washington Redskins
Positional Power Rankings: Defense/Special Teams
2 of 6
1(1) Pittsburgh Steelers: Despite having a bye this past week, the Steeler’s defense still has the most fantasy points this season. (Bye Week)
2(5) Chicago Bears: Sure they played the Panthers, but the Bears' defense is still a dominating crew. (6 PA, 3 int, 5 sacks)
3(2) New England Patriots: The Patriots defense had a week off, yet the still have a ton of fantasy points, maybe thanks to some poor weeks by other defenses. (Bye Week)
4(4) Tennessee Titans: The Titans defense continues to allow a lot of points but this is two weeks in a row they have had at least six sacks. (27 PA, 3 int, 6 sacks)
5(N/R) Atlanta Falcons: The Falcons have a strong offense and a strong defense, they might be the NFC's best squad. (10 PA, 2 int, 1 fr, 1 td)
on the cusp: Detroit Lions; New York Jets; Seattle Seahawks; Green Bay Packers; Philadelphia Eagles
Positional Power Rankings: Tight Ends
3 of 6
1(1) Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers: I'm really running out of things to say about Gates, he's the Chargers best target yada yada, hes a freak athlete yada yada, seriously? He has been fantasy's best tightend for like 3 years now, this shouldn't be a surprise. (5 rec, 92 yds, 1 td, 7 tar)
2(N/R) Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders: It's about time I start giving Miller some credit. The rest of the receivers on the Raiders roster have been let downs so far, which has given Miller the opportunity to be the second best tight end in fantasy. (6 rec, 62 yds, 1 td, 8 tar)
3(3) Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts: It was a poor week for the entire Colt's offense, but don't sleep on the Chiefs defense either. I'm sure Clark will make it a tough decision for #2 this week. (3 rec, 20 yds, 6 tar)
4(N/R) Marcedes Lewis, Jacksonville Jaguars: Another game with multiple touchdowns means I can't doubt lewis anymore. He may not have the most receiving yards or catches, but his 5 touchdowns are the second most by any tight end. (4 rec, 54 yds, 2 td, 5 tar)
5(N/R) Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers: Alex Smith is still struggling, but Davis had his first 100 yard receiving game of the year. (5 rec, 104 yds, 1 td, 7 tar)
on the cusp: Dustin Keller, New York Jets; Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins; Jeremy Shockey, New Orleans Saints; Brandon Pettigrew, Detroit Lions; Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons
Positional Power Rankings: Wide Receivers
4 of 6
Wide Receivers
1(2) Brandon Lloyd, Denver Broncos: The Broncos' offense is looking more like the Colts', and Lloyd is their version of Reggie Wayne. Lloyd continues to make me look good. P.S. That means click the link. (5 rec, 135 yds, 2 td, 14 tar)
2(5) Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants: Eli Manning went to Nicks 17 times, if you are in a PPR league, not only did his two touchdowns make this week's game a little easier but his 12 catches won it for you too. (12 rec, 130 yds, 2 td, 17 tar)
3(N/R) Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys: That's a little more like what we expect from Austin, unlike that off week he had before his bye week. Austin did let a catch go through his hands that ended up being intercepted, I don't think it will keep Romo from throwing to him, but he might think about it harder than before. (9 rec, 166 yds, 1 td, 12 tar)
4(4) Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons: Nothing changes for White and the Falcons this week. Roddy is still their best option, and he had yet another 100 yard performance. These kind of weeks are going to be routine for White. If the Falcons had another target to take away some of the defensive focus on White, he could put up Miles Austin type numbers. (5 rec, 101 yds, 1 td, 8 tar)
5(1) Austin Collie, Indianapolis Colts: In PPR he is still a great option. Pierre Garcon came back and had a similar day as Collie, which should be reassuring for Collie owners because he is listed as the #2. This was a tough week for the Colts going up against the newly stingy Kansas City defense. (5 rec, 48 yds, 6 tar)
on the cusp: Terrell Owens, Cincinnati Bengals; Roy E. Williams, Dallas Cowboys; Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills; Santana Moss, Washington Redskins; Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions
Positional Power Rankings: Running Backs
5 of 6
1(1) Arian Foster, Houston Texans: it wasn't a great week for Foster, but it wasn't a great day for the season's previous best backs either so Foster remains at 1. Foster still has by far the best weekly average for running backs, and I'm not worried about this past week so neither should you. (11 car, 25 yds, 2 rec, 2 yds, 4 tar)
2(3) Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: Peterson failed to reach the end zone despite some impressive runs against the leagues toughest rushing defense (as far as fantasy is concerned). The jets were going after the ball and hard when tackling Peterson, but failed to cause a fumble. That is pretty reassuring. (18 car, 88 yds, 1 rec, 20 yds, 3 tar)
3(N/R) LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles: McCoy has been one of the most versatile backs in football, and he has been good no matter who has been under center for the Eagles. That just goes to show how McCoy has matured as back in his second season. (18 car, 92 yds, 1 td, 5 rec, 46 yds, 5 tar)
4(5) Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers: Alex Smith got an earful from Coach Mike Singletary and afterward became much more consistent, mostly because he threw to Gore the rest of the way. Gore continues to impress running and catching the ball. (18 car, 52 yds, 4 rec, 21 yds, 1 td, 8 tar)
5(N/R) Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans: Well, we all should have seen it coming. CJ has a great week, then nothing, then a great week then nothing. He was just due this week. It has to get hard for his owners who probably were hoping he would win them their games every week, not be so hit or miss. (19 car, 131 yds, 2 td, 1 rec, 1 yds, 1 tar)
on the cusp: Matt Forte, Chicago Bears; Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions; Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers; Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns; LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers
Positional Power Rankings: Quarterbacks
6 of 6
Quarterbacks
1(2) Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers: The Chargers are relying on Rivers late in the game since their defense can't seem to close out games against week teams. Well, this week it was actually because of mistakes by Rivers that the Chargers couldn't pull out the win. Still, Rivers is averaging over 450 yards passingper game. (27/42, 431 yds, 2 td, 14 rush yds)
2(1) Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts: It was a poor week for Manning, who has actually been a let down now two weeks in a row. Peyton is still on top in fantasy for points by a quarterback, but he is starting to look vulnerable after such a hot start. (26/44, 244 yds, 1 int)
3(4) Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos: This is two weeks in a row that Orton has produced against very tough defenses. Orton won't get much respect, but his start of the season has been electric and I'm saying it: Kyle Orton is an elite fantasy quarterback ... for now. (23/38, 314 yds, 2 td)
4(3) Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: There is still a chance Rodgers could play this upcoming week so he will stay in our top five. Despite losing two tight ends and getting hammered on a regular basis, he put his team in a position to win and had a strong showing in fantasy. (27/46, 293 yds, 1 td, 1 int, 30 rush yds)
5(5) Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: Only one touchdown pass for Brees would have been huge news last season. This year? It has quickly become the norm. (33/48, 275 yds, 1 td)
on the cusp: Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys; Tom Brady, New England Patriots; Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons; Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens; Eli Manning, New York Giants
