WWE Raw Fallout: What's Next for Charlotte After Replacing Becky Lynch and More
Never get on the bad of Mr. McMahon. Becky Lynch learned that the hard way on the February 11 edition of Raw as he reversed the decision of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and suspended The Man beyond WrestleMania 35.
This set up a fascinating scenario as Charlotte Flair was named as her replacement. While few WrestleMania feuds have even started to develop, the Raw Women's Championship is in complete chaos, and the show was all the better for it.
This edition may have been mostly about Lynch, but it had many other interesting setups for the future. Sasha Banks left tag team partner Bayley high and dry for the second straight week, looking to be legitimately not healthy enough to compete, foreshadowing a dangerous situation at Sunday's Elimination Chamber.
Lio Rush made his presence felt throughout a long segment involving Bobby Lashley and Finn Balor, setting him up for the most important match of his career Sunday.
Ruby Riott also made an impact ahead of her clash with Ronda Rousey by more than proving her worth this week against Nikki Cross.
Finally, The Revival put on a show that may finally change their fortune as they captured the Raw Tag Team Championships by defeating Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, less than two months before WrestleMania.
All these moments created the backbone of a fascinating episode from WWE's red brand that leaves many questions for what is to come next.
Lynch Will Still Be the Star of WrestleMania Build Despite Charlotte
1 of 5Becky Lynch was given a simple ultimatum to start the night: After being officially cleared to compete at WrestleMania, she was told she would only be allowed to face Rousey if she apologized to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon before the end of the show.
She did just that after much soul-searching, but WWE Chairman Vince McMahon threw a curve ball, suspending The Irish Lass Kicker for 60 days and announcing Charlotte Flair as her replacement for the match against The Baddest Woman on the Planet.
This was the expected swerve most dreaded. While Lynch has lost her spot entirely on The Grandest Stage of Them All, she'll get it back. What she's most likely not to get back is her singles match with Rousey. The Queen has been established in this feud now.
This whole night was built on the stardom of The Man. She was all over this show, opening and closing while appearing every half-hour backstage. She continues to be featured on both brands, and her growing rivalry with the McMahons only makes her more likable for fans.
This is still Lynch's rise to glory. She is the star featured here. Charlotte is just there to complicate matters. With Rousey potentially leaving for a while after 'Mania, The Queen's inclusion makes it feel more likely that The Man might not win.
Charlotte will get a much-deserved spotlight of her own and can help put over Lynch even more when it matters most, creating a top-notch story to headline The Show of Shows come April 7.
Sasha Banks Still Not Healthy Enough to Compete
2 of 5
In a battle to determine who would open the Elimination Chamber, Bayley was left alone in a Triple Threat tag team match after Sasha Banks was injured by Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan.
The Boss was unable to overcome the problem, and Nia Jax took out Bayley with a Samoan drop for the win.
Banks has now been kept out of the action at ringside for two straight weeks. While she is being protected, WWE likely expects her to be able to compete on Sunday. If she couldn't, she and Bayley would not have won last week.
However, it is disconcerting for Banks not to be cleared for basic action just before one of the most dangerous matches of the year. Even if she is free to compete, she could easily get injured quickly inside the Elimination Chamber. There are many factors at work here that are bad news for The Boss 'n' Hug Connection.
They will now be opening Sunday's match. If Banks is not ready to go, there is no way she will be able to go the full 30 minutes inside the steel cage. Bayley cannot carry the two alone, even though they should be favorites for the titles.
At this point, it might be safer to have someone like Nikki Cross or Alexa Bliss replace Banks for the match.
Lio Rush Could Be on Make-or-Break WrestleMania Run
3 of 5
It was announced before Finn Balor vs. Drew McIntyre that The Extraordinary Man would get an Intercontinental Championship match at Elimination Chamber in a handicap match against Lio Rush and Bobby Lashley.
Monday's action broke down before turning into a six-man tag with Lashley, McIntyre and Baron Corbin fighting Kurt Angle, Braun Strowman and Balor.
Rush distracted the Irishman, allowing The Dominator to cause a false finish. The referee restarted the match, and Balor pinned Lashley after the Coup De Grace.
The Man of the Hour is one of the most naturally gifted athletes WWE has. He may be only 5'6" and 160 pounds, but what he can do in the ring is only rivaled by legends such as Rey Mysterio. While not being a great mic worker, Rush has also proved to be impressively charismatic.
This will be his first real main roster shot in WWE, finally getting a chance on a major pay-per-view. He could be the one to cost The Almighty his title or take the pinfall after Balor almost seals the victory. Either way, he can make a major impact on Sunday.
However, his size may force him to play the useless manager, forever isolated as the cruiserweight who isn't worthy of fighting the big stars of WWE.
This one match could decide his future.
Ruby Riott Has Earned Opportunity Against Ronda Rousey
4 of 5Over the weekend, Ruby Riott was announced as Ronda Rousey's opponent for the Raw women's title at Elimination Chamber.
An arrogant Riott went out without The Riott Squad on Monday and was not ready for Nikki Cross, but the title contender still caught The Twisted Sister with a Riott Kick for the win.
While Riott has no chance against The Baddest Woman on the Planet, much as she had no chance against Charlotte this time last year, it is always great to have her in title contention.
One of the best women on the roster, her alliance with Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan has limited her ability to showcase her talent. This match was proof of what she can do without frequent interference, putting over Cross while pushing her to be better.
Riott is the perfect bridge challenger to the current Raw women's champion. She can push anybody to be better, and she should give Rousey another fantastic match to add to a steady stream of quality outings in the last few months.
The Revival Can Change the Raw Tag Team Landscape
5 of 5The Revival got one last shot at Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, and they made the most of it.
In an exciting tag team title contest, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder caught Gable with the Shatter Machine to earn their first reign as tag team champions on the main roster.
Few tag teams get a chance to stand out among the pack. Tag team specialist is not often a compliment, limiting the potential upside of certain stars, but occasionally a pairing can make a splash through sheer determination and love of the business.
The Top Guys may be the best tag team in the world, a moniker they have not had a chance to prove on the main roster. Monday's match with Gable and Roode might have been their best on the main roster even though it was often a bit sloppy.
What made this different? Revival got time, and they delivered. They deserved this chance to be champions months ago, though it is still hard to say if they are really being given the spotlight their performances warrant.
The Raw tag team champions have momentum, but they will need challengers worthy of The Grandest Stage of Them All. This does not mean a filler multi-team title defense. Someone has to step up in a massive way. If they do, Raw's tag team division could begin a major resurgence.
