Stephen Curry Reportedly Will Return from Ankle Injury for Hawks vs. Warriors
Stephen Curry is back.
After missing six games because of a tweaked right ankle, the Golden State Warriors point guard will return Friday against the Atlanta Hawks at Oracle Arena, per Mark Medina of the Mercury News.
Curry was cleared to practice Tuesday and was upgraded to probable Thursday. However, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Thursday the two-time MVP won't be at full strength when he hits the hardwood:
"He's as close to 100 percent healthy as can be. I wouldn't say it's 100 percent healthy. I think a summer will ultimately do him some good. I think there's things to be gained from a summer of some rest and specific rehab that we won't be able to address now. Everything we have been able to address, we've addressed. I think he's good. But I wouldn't tell you he's 100 percent."
Before hitting the shelf for the second time this season, Curry looked sharp as he helped keep the Warriors in contention for the Western Conference's No. 1 seed.
Through 50 games, he averaged 26.3 points, 6.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals, shooting 49.4 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from three and 91.9 percent from the free-throw line.
But with Curry out of the lineup since March 9, the Warriors have gone 2-4. The reigning champions sit 4.5 games back of the Rockets and appear destined for the No. 2 seed.
Curry will try to guide the Warriors' banged-up attack with Klay Thompson (fractured thumb) and Kevin Durant (incomplete rib cartilage fracture) still sidelined.
