Hanley Ramirez Leaves Game vs. Yankees with Wrist Injury, X-Rays Negative
Boston Red Sox designated hitter Hanley Ramirez left Thursday's game against the New York Yankees in the first inning after being hit on the wrist by a pitch from Sonny Gray.
Ramirez, 34, underwent X-rays that came back negative, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. He was replaced by Mitch Moreland.
In his third season in Boston, Ramirez has been inconsistent during his time with the Red Sox. He hit .242/.320/.429 with 23 home runs and 62 runs batted in last season, struggling while being unable to play much in the field.

“My hips and swinging hands are faster. It’s effortless. I feel good things,” Ramirez told reporters. “At the end of the day, you just sit down and you think about changes you’ve got to make for next year. It’s tough to do those things and when you start doing that, you see the difference. The mind is telling you that it needs it.”
Ramirez has been off to a solid start to 2018, hitting .357 with two home runs and 11 runs batted in. Moreland will likely replace him in his first base spot if he stays there, and the Red Sox can use J.D. Martinez or rotate in other players at the DH spot.
