New York Yankees' Historic Slide Continues Following Wednesday Loss
The New York Yankees lost Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins by a score of 6-1, dropping the club's second of three tilts against Minnesota. As a result of the loss, the Yankees have gone 0-8-2 in their last 10 series, marking the longest streak for the club since 1991 without a series victory, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Due to New York's extended slump, the club has gone from the lead in the American League East to a third-place record of 48-45 and four games behind the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees last won a series in the midst of a six-game winning streak in early June when they swept the Baltimore Orioles at home.

After that series, the Yankees went on to win the first game against the Los Angeles Angels before going on a seven-game losing streak. Things have gotten worse since the calendar flipped to July. The club owns just a 5-10 record this month and a 3-4 mark since the All-Star break.
General manager Brian Cashman made some recent trades to shore up the depth chart. With a lack of viable options at first base, Cashman traded for minor leaguer Garrett Cooper and then dealt for third baseman Todd Frazier and relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle from the Chicago White Sox.
The Yankees open a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday evening and would need to take three of the four contests to end the series skid. Even a split would likely be considered a win at this point, but the club, which occupies the second and last wild-card spot by a half-game, needs to turn things around quickly if it wants to remain in playoff contention as the season progresses. ย ย ย
