Knicks Trade Rumors: Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight Interest New York
The New York Knicks are reportedly showing interest in Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe of the Phoenix Suns as they look for a starting point guard.
On Friday, Ian Begley of ESPN reported the Knicks are looking for a player to fill the void in the short term while waiting for rookie Frank Ntilikina to develop. He suggested Knight could have been part of the Carmelo Anthony trade discussions.
Marc Berman of the New York Post previously noted Wednesday that New York inquired about both Bledsoe and free agent Ramon Sessions.
The Knicks are in a state of flux following the Thursday arrival of new general manager Scott Perry, who's being forced to decide how to move forward with the Anthony talks.
Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported Melo is "frustrated" by the lack of progress toward a deal to the Houston Rockets, where he'd join James Harden and Chris Paul. He doesn't want a "messy divorce" and is "committed" to landing in Houston, but the Knicks haven't made a decision.
Spotrac notes the Suns have $19.2 million in space under the salary cap, while Bledsoe ($14.5 million) and Knight ($13.6 million) both have sizable cap hits for the 2017-18 season. That could make Phoenix a valuable resource as New York works toward a multi-team Anthony blockbuster.
It doesn't sound like any type of agreement for Knight or Bledsoe, whether it involves Anthony or part of a separate agreement, is imminent, though.
If the Knicks make the decision to keep Melo in the fold, they could be forced to seek out a cheaper option like Sessions, who could fill the mentor role for Ntilikina.
