LeBron James Congratulates Stephen Curry for Record-Breaking Warriors Contract

Scott PolacekJun 30, 2017

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James weighed in on two-time MVP Stephen Curry's new record contract, offering his congratulations to the guard who just bested him in the NBA Finals:

This comes after Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Friday that Curry and the Golden State Warriors agreed to a five-year deal worth $201 million. Wojnarowski noted it was the richest contract in NBA history.

Perhaps James had potential future earnings in mind when he offered his congratulations considering Wojnarowski said contracts of more than $200 million will ultimately "become the norm for the NBA's biggest superstars."

Curry has played for Golden State his entire career as one of the best players in the league who helped lead his team to three straight NBA Finals and two championships because of his stellar three-point shooting and head-turning ball-handling skills.

Despite his immense ability, Curry was playing on a team-friendly four-year, $44 million contract before this record deal in part because "there were grave concerns about the sturdiness of his ankles," per Wojnarowski.

James congratulating Curry is noteworthy because the two have taken central roles in the last three Finals as Cleveland and Golden State squared off for the Larry O'Brien Trophy. James is still widely considered the best player in the league, but Curry won two of those three matchups and now has the supermax deal to go with the rings.
