Chris Paul Thanks Clippers, Los Angeles After Being Traded to Rockets
Point guard Chris Paul said farewell to Los Angeles Clippers fans on Twitter after reports Wednesday that the Clippers traded him to the Houston Rockets.
As seen in the following tweet, CP3 discussed his emotional departure from the team he spent the past six seasons with:
Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that Paul opted in to his contract and was traded to the Rockets in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell, the non-guaranteed deals of DeAndre Liggins, Tim Quarterman and Ryan Kelly, and a 2018 first-round pick that is top-three protected.
The 32-year-old Paul is a nine-time All-Star and nine-time All-Defensive Team selection who gives Houston one of the NBA's most dynamic backcourts.
Paul will pair with James Harden, who figures to take more of a 2-guard approach rather than running the point like he did in 2016-17.
CP3 is one of the top point guards of his era, and he is coming off another strong statistical season, as he averaged 18.1 points, 9.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Paul's production hasn't translated to much postseason success, as he and the Clippers never managed to get past the second round of the playoffs.
The Rockets made the Western Conference Finals in the 2014-15 campaign, and they were two wins away from reaching that point again this past season.
With Paul and Harden surrounded by several dangerous, long-range shooters, the Rockets may have the personnel needed to give the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs a run for their money in the Western Conference.
