Patrick McCaw Ties Mark Madsen's Record for Best Postseason Start by Rookie
Golden State Warriors rookie Patrick McCaw tied former Los Angeles Lakers forward Mark Madsen for the best playoff record by a first-year player at 13-0 following the Dubs' victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of the 2017 NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated spotlighted the unique feat. McCaw can set a new record if he plays in Game 4 and the Warriors complete the sweep of the Cavs to capture the championship.
McCaw tying Madsen's record won't receive much attention because he is buried on the star-studded team's depth chart. He has averaged 4.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists while playing only 12.5 minutes per game in 13 appearances during the Warriors' unbeaten playoff run.
The 21-year-old UNLV product, who Golden State acquired in a draft-night trade with the Milwaukee Bucks last June, told Janie McCauley of the Associated Press in December that joining a team with such a terrific foundation even before adding Kevin Durant was a blessing.
"When I figured out I was going to Golden State, that just made it even more of a dream," McCaw said. "To be able to be on the same team as Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Steph Curry, Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston, guys that made it to the Finals in back-to-back years and have won the Finals ... to be with such great players and to learn from them my first couple years in the NBA is exactly how I wanted it to go."
The St. Louis native has played in all three Finals games so far, but he hasn't logged more than seven minutes in any contest and has just two points in the series.
Golden State can secure its second title in three years with a victory Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
