Jerry West Discusses Clippers Rumors, Racist Graffiti at LeBron James' Home
Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry West commented on various topics during an exclusive interview with TMZ Sports on Wednesday, including rumors of the Los Angeles Clippers courting him, as well as racist vandalism at the Los Angeles home of Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James.
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Clippers are attempting to bring West in as an advisor, which is a role he currently holds with the Golden State Warriors.
When asked about it by TMZ Sports, West replied: "I don't know what you're talking about."
With regard to James, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Captain Patricia Sandoval said someone spray painted the N-word on front gate of his home, per ESPN.com.
In response to a question about the incident, West said the following: "It's embarrassing that it could happen to anyone, much less him."
On the subject of James' home vandalism, LeBron commented on Wednesday, per ESPN.com:
"Just shows that racism will always be a part of the world, part of America. Hate in America, especially for African-Americans, is living every day. It is hidden most days. It is alive every single day. ... No matter how much money you have, how famous you are, how much people admire you, being black in America is tough."
Despite West playing coy with respect to the Clippers, Stein reported that the Los Angeles Lakers legend had already spoken to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer about possibly joining the organization.
West is a seven-time NBA champion as an executive with the Lakers and Warriors, and he has been part of Golden State's front office since 2011.
