LeBron James Becomes Youngest in NBA History to Score 27,000 Career Points
LeBron James passed Hakeem Olajuwon for 10th on the NBA's all-time scoring list Nov. 5, and he made more history Friday night in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 105-94 win over the Washington Wizards.
In the first quarter of Friday's Eastern Conference showdown, James rose up over Wizards swingman Otto Porter and drilled a three-pointer to surpass Kobe Bryant as the youngest player in NBA history to score 27,000 points:
According to ESPN Stats & Info, James recorded the accomplishment at 31 years and 317 days old. Before James, Bryant hit the 27,000-point mark at 32 years and 160 days old.
ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin provided some staggering context regarding LeBron's achievement:
James finished the night with 27 points (9-of-18 shooting, 3-of-4 from three), 10 rebounds and five assists to help the Cavs bounce back from their first loss of the season Nov. 8 against the Atlanta Hawks.
He's now topped 20 points in all but two games so far this season and is averaging 23.4 points, 9.3 assists and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.
And not only did LeBron surpass Bryant in the win, but he received a warm welcome in the locker room when his teammates soaked him with water bottles as a congratulatory gesture.
"They rushed me," he said, per the Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd. "They got all my clothes wet and everything, but, that's my guys so it's always great to be able to accomplish something with such a great group of guys."
With another record in the bag, James can set his sights on moving up the league's scoring leaderboard once again. After passing Olajuwon, James is now within reach of Elvin Hayes' perch at No. 9 all-time—which is 293 points away following Friday's 27-point outing.
