Wade tallied 22 points, six rebounds and five assists to help Chicago secure the 105-99 win over its Eastern Conference rival. The moment in question came after he knocked down a step-back three with 26 seconds left to seal the game, and then made the gesture.

Here's a look at the play:

The 34-year-old Chicago native, who signed with the Bulls during the offseason after spending 13 seasons with the Miami Heat, called the entire situation an "out-of-body experience" after the game, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.com.

On Friday, he posted an apology on social media:

The $25,000 fine matches the one handed down to former Oklahoma City Thunder and current Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant in 2013 for the same gesture.
