Falcons Score 45-Plus Points in Consecutive Games for 1st Time

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 5, 2016

The Atlanta Falcons scored 48 points in Sunday's home win over the Carolina Panthers, marking the first time in franchise history the Falcons have scored 45 or more points in back-to-back games, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Atlanta previously defeated the Saints by a score of 45-32 in Week 3, behind three rushing touchdowns from second-year running back Tevin Coleman, in combination with a pair of passing scores by quarterback Matt Ryan and a pick-six by rookie linebacker Deion Jones, a 21-year-old New Orleans native.

While Coleman had a quiet outing in Sunday's 48-33 win over Carolina, both Ryan and the defense came up big once again, with the quarterback notably throwing for a franchise-record 503 yards to go along with a quartet of touchdowns.

Also setting a franchise record was wide receiver Julio Jones, who became the sixth player in NFL history to reach 300 or more receiving yards in a single game, hitting the mark exactly on the nose when he jaunted for a 75-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seemingly close out the victory for good.

The defensive score was provided by cornerback Robert Alford, who had a 30-yard pick-six with 74 seconds remaining in the contest, finally putting the lid on Carolina's vicious comeback attempt.

The Falcons are highly unlikely to make it three straight games with 45 or more points, as they'll now face the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos, owners of arguably the toughest defense in all of football (though the Minnesota Vikings might disagree).
