Beal Crucial Second Scoring Option for Wizards
The 23-year-old guard played only 11 minutes in Wednesday's game against the Celtics before coming out with a hamstring injury. Beal had only three points on 1-of-8 shooting before leaving the game.
Along with John Wall, Beal is the biggest key to Washington's success offensively, and he is currently producing to the tune of 17.5 points, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
He has quickly developed into one of the NBA's top shooting guards from an offensive perspective, recording a career-high 17.4 points per game on 44.9 percent shooting to go along with 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest in 2015-16.
The Florida alumnus was limited to just 55 games, however, as he sat out with myriad injuries, including shoulder and pelvis ailments.
A lack of durability wasn't a new issue for Beal, as he has never played in more than 73 games in a single NBA season after four years in the league. In three of those years, he missed at least 19 contests.
His inability to remain on the floor played a big role in the Wizards missing out on the playoffs last season, and it was clear that his injury problems and the Wizards' struggles frustrated him at times over the course of the 2015-16 campaign.
With a rocky start to the new season, a healthy Beal will be essential for the Wizards.
