Kyle Lowry Out vs. Celtics with Wrist Injury
Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry has a wrist injury that could keep him out for multiple games.
Per the Raptors' official media relations Twitter account, Lowry will not play on Friday against the Boston Celtics and "will have further evaluation over the weekend."
Blake Murphy of Raptors Republic reported Lowry suffered the injury on Feb. 15 against the Charlotte Hornets and added it's "not a one-day thing."
Lowry dealt with right elbow issues throughout the second half of last season, and he had fluid drained from his elbow in late March 2016. However, the feisty floor general battled through the pain and some shaky showings in the postseason to help the Raptors reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history.
This has been the best season of Lowry's career. He was named to his third All-Star team with career highs in scoring (22.8) and rebounding (4.8)—not to mention 6.9 assists per game.
The 30-year-old leads the Raptors in win shares (9.4) by a substantial margin; DeMar DeRozan is second at 5.7, per Basketball-Reference.com.
The Raptors are still chasing the Celtics for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, so losing their best player for any length of time will make that climb even more difficult.
If there's any good news for the Raptors, it's that Cory Joseph ranks among the league's best backup floor generals and should have no problem assuming a heavier workload if Lowry misses substantial time.
