Warriors Looking to Set Record with 16th Win to Start Season
The Golden State Warriors will look to set a new NBA record in Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, with a shot to become the first team in league history to win each of its first 16 games in a season, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Sitting at 15-0 so far, the Warriors are currently tied with the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets for the best start to a season in NBA history, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Of course, the team Golden State will most frequently be compared to is the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, a squad that went 72-10 in Michael Jordan's first full season back with the team, following an extended break to play minor league baseball.
The Warriors obviously still have a long way to go, but ESPN's Basketball Power Index gives them a 27 percent chance to reach 70 wins and a 10 percent chance to reach 72 wins, not to mention a 95 percent chance to win Tuesday's game against a struggling in-state rival.
The 2-11 Lakers have yet to beat a team that currently has a winning record, and they have both the worst record and worst point differential per game (-7.2) in the Western Conference.
If not for the 0-15 Philadelphia 76ers, there would likely be much more focus on just how bad the Lakers have been.
One of the season's more interesting subplots is the race between Philadelphia and Golden State, with one team still seeking its first win and the other hoping to put off its first loss for as long as possible.
As great as the Warriors have been, it does seem likely that they'll lose a game before the 76ers actually manage to win one.
