Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell's Post-Week 7 Fantasy Advice

Alec NathanOct 25, 2015

The New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets, 30-23, Sunday afternoon to improve to 6-0, but not all of Tom Brady's receiving targets produced up to par. While Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola made some inroads working in the middle of the field, Brandon LaFell struggled in his season debut.

Here's a look at how each receiver performed and how his stock shifted as a result of Sunday's efforts.

Danny Amendola

It's time to take Amendola seriously. A week after catching seven passes for 105 yards, he caught a season-high eight balls, including a leaping eight-yard touchdown strike in the fourth quarter.

"He always be making these crazy acrobatic catches," Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said, per CSN New England's Michael Giardi. "He looks like a gymnast half the time."

Amendola didn't top 40 yards receiving in any of the Patriots' first four games, but he's been a favorite target of Brady over the past 14 days.

New England's distribution of touches is generally difficult to predict, but Amendola is worth an add in deeper leagues since he wields upside as a flex option.

According to ESPN.com, Amendola was owned in 16.1 percent of leagues entering Sunday's contest. That number should climb closer to 30 or 40 percent as Week 8 approaches.

Julian Edelman

Edelman saw fewer than 10 targets for just the second time all season, but that shouldn't have come as a surprise with Darrelle Revis shadowing him all over the field.

However, it must be noted Edelman's day could have gone from pedestrian to rock-solid had he not dropped a sure touchdown in the third quarter.

Despite the unlucky turn of events, he should revert to WR1 status Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins. Even though Miami has allowed an average of 246 passing yards over its last two wins, Brent Grimes is the only real intimidating presence in the Dolphins secondary.

If Grimes shadows Edelman, he could struggle a bit. However, New England should be able to move the shifty slot receiver around enough to free him up for his usual allotment of receptions.

Brandon LaFell

LaFell had a season's worth of drops in one game.

After the Patriots activated him from the physically unable to perform list, LaFell turned in a two-catch, 25-yard performance that included six drops. According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, LaFell gave himself an "F" for Sunday's performance.

But here's the thing: LaFell was targeted eight times, which ranked as the third-most on the team. He remains nothing more than a bench option with upside for the time being, but he deserves to be owned in 12- and 14-team formats.

Brady likes to spread the ball around, so there's some upside here so long as LaFell can make Sunday's drops a thing of the past.
