WWE 2K16: Features That Will Make or Break Upcoming Game
Visually, WWE 2K16 looks great. We're at a point in the gaming world where that's expected. It's still nice to see, but that quality moves the needle only so much in the eyes of hardcore fans.
But three other elements of WWE 2K16 will determine how well the game plays and is received by fans.
Online Matchmaking

In previous versions, the online matchmaking for WWE games has been hit-or-miss—or lacking rhyme and reason.
"2K altered the online options offered in WWE 2K16 based on fan feedback, which will include a revised matchmaking system and other ways to play with the WWE Games community," wrote Matthew Artus of WWE.com.
We don't know what that means yet, but hopefully it'll be better than WWE 2K15 in this regard. Last year, the verbiage in the menus was confusing, and it was difficult to find a match. There's nothing worse than jonesing for some virtual combat in a WWE ring, only to be thwarted by a flawed matchmaking system.
Based on the improvements made in NBA 2K16's online functionality this year, there's reason to be optimistic about WWE 2K16.
Functionality of Universe Mode
At its core, Universe mode has more depth than any other mode in the game. Playing through years of the WWE calendar with the ability to customize the experience is ideal for virtual wrestling fans.
This year, the developers removed many of the restrictions that had been placed on Universe mode in the past. Per WWE.2K.com, you can now attach Superstars to multiple brands—which gives you more options when booking matches—and injuries have been added.

You can now injure a Superstar, and the effects of those injuries will be visible in future matches—or the injuries might be so severe that the recipient will be unable to compete temporarily.
If this functions as it sounds, Universe mode may get most of my WWE 2K16 time.
Physics
We've all seen some wonky things happen near the ring steps or with other props in and outside of the ring. Each year, the developers seem to tighten up this area of the game. In previous games, Superstars' bodies would morph around or through objects.
That'll kill the mood every time.
The video above shows off some action from a hardcore match between Stardust and Finn Balor. It features some interaction with tables, the ring post and a kendo stick. Unfortunately, we may have to wait until release day to see the full gamut of collision-detection specifics.
As we move into the second year of WWE games on this generation of consoles, we can only hope the use of chairs, steps, announce tables and other weapons doesn't hinder the gameplay.
WWE 2K16 will be available October 27 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
