WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 15

Erik BeastonOct 16, 2015

The New Day continued their tremendous run of late Thursday night on SmackDown, competing in the night's main event and again proving why they are the most well-oiled machine in WWE right now.

Staving off defeat by intentionally getting themselves disqualified against Dean Ambrose and The Dudley Boyz, the trio beat down the immensely popular babyfaces and stood tall to end the broadcast.

It has been a monumental run of late for the trio, who has enjoyed unprecedented success and exposure in their careers.

Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have consistently worked high-profile matches and emerged from the pack as a legitimate breakout act in 2015.

As they continue to build momentum for themselves, WWE Creative rewards them with more and more television time and main event opportunities.

The WWE tag team champions were not the only big winners from Thursday night's broadcast, though. And, conversely, there was a decorated Superstar whose accomplishments are undeniable but whose status as a loser both on SmackDown and in WWE at this point has never been more apparent.

Winner: Summer Rae

The only bright spot to come out of the entire Dolph Ziggler-Rusev angle, Summer Rae continued her streak of outstanding performances as the special referee for The Showoff and Bulgarian Brute's latest battle.

Intentionally counting slow and preventing Rusev from scoring the victory, doing little things like fixing her hair to delay the count, was a really solid way to further get the story over with the audience.

The delight she took in frustrating Rusev, and the tremendous slap she laid on him that set up the finish, was on point and exactly what the program called for.

While she was turned down by Ziggler after the match, her coyness was perfect, as was her body language as she watched the victor leave without her.

There is no denying just how truly awful the story that has unfolded over the last three months has been. Through the disjointed booking and illogical twists and turns, Summer Rae has been the one consistent and certainly deserves to remain relevant in the WWE Universe as the angle reaches its conclusion.

Loser: Sheamus

Take a look at all four men involved in Thursday night's tag team match, and it becomes apparent quickly the Celtic Warrior is in the unenviable position of being completely directionless.

Neville is feuding with King Barrett, and Cesaro essentially kicked off a program with Stardust, who was seated at ringside with his minions The Ascension. Sheamus, then, is left with nothing to do. Despite having the Money in the Bank briefcase and essentially being the uncrowned WWE champion, he has become irrelevant.

Sure, he scored the pinfall victory over Cesaro for him and Barrett, but that does not make up for the fact that he remains one of the most mismanaged Superstars on the roster.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

The Lunatic Fringe may have been left lying to close out Thursday's broadcast, but before that, he was given the star treatment, the hometown boy greeted with the hero's welcome. Adorning the orange and black of the Cincinnati Bengals, he exploded into the match and appeared more energized and motivated than ever.

The backstage segment involving him and Byron Saxton may have been little more than a glorified Payday commercial, but it was an amusing look at the unhinged character.

Ambrose remains perpetually over despite not receiving the same sustained push that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have, proving that he may be key to a WWE ratings revival.

That is, if WWE Creative would ever get fully behind him.
