WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 8

Erik BeastonOct 9, 2015

The October 8 episode of SmackDown was a tale of two stories, both of which figure to play heavily into the Hell in a Cell 2015 pay-per-view in a few weeks.

Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt waged war in a tag team battle that also included the massive Braun Strowman and "The Viper" Randy Orton. Ending in a disqualification when Wyatt used a steel chair on Reigns, the contest was yet another chapter in the feud that will culminate inside The Devil's Playground.

For The New Day, SmackDown represented yet another opportunity for the trio to grow into its sudden push up the ladder in WWE.

Not only did it start the show off, enjoying promo time that included a nice burn on Philadelphia's favorite sports team ("E-A-G-L-E-S...BOOTY!"), but Big E also battled former onscreen associate Dolph Ziggler in singles competition.

With The Dudley Boyz at ringside, the former intercontinental champion was able to knock off Ziggler and score the big victory.

New Day, Reigns and Wyatt were all winners on this broadcast. They continued their steady build toward the October 25 WWE Network presentation.

Others shared their success, while some were not quite so lucky.

Who emerged from Thursday's show as the other winners, and who were the losers of the night?

Find out now.

Loser: Rusev

If the intention is to keep the spotlight on Rusev the way WWE has, one would assume that The Bulgarian Brute would be somewhat protected.

But assuming, when it comes to the Creative team, is dangerous.

Fans found out just how dangerous Thursday when Rusev was soundly defeated by Ryback.

As if the former United States champion had not already cooled off significantly over the last six months, he is now being beaten at a rate that is alarming. Just two months ago, Cesaro scored a pinfall victory over him that was treated like a big deal. Only one other Superstar had beaten The Bulgarian Brute to that point.

Since then, Rusev has been pinned on a fairly consistent basis, diminishing the aura that once existed around him.

Thursday was no different, and in result, Rusev was the night's most obvious loser.

Winner: Stardust

With his vendetta against Neville seemingly wrapped up, Stardust cut a prerecorded promo in which he seemed to hint that a new feud awaits him.

From the completely over-the-top content of his promo to the gimmick of picking cards, the former Cody Rhodes continued to impress in all facets of character development. He has thrown himself into the persona, regardless of how ridiculous it has gotten at times.

Determined to do his absolute best with what he has, he has single-handedly helped the Stardust character succeed in a time and place in which where it probably should not.

Losers: Team Bella

Perhaps it was a hangover from the spectacular match Bayley and Sasha Banks had at TakeOver or the stunning debut of Asuka, but one could not help but realize just how over its head Team Bella is when sharing the ring with the likes of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Natalya, as was the case Thursday night.

Have Brie and Nikki worked extremely hard to improve? Yes. Has Alicia Fox long been one of the more underappreciated workers in the Divas division? Of course.

But all three are from a different era, when in-ring skills were taught completely differently than they are now. Their styles do not endear them to fans, especially when it is obvious to everyone that the women they share the ring with are just plum better.

It is an observation that will be made with every passing classic that the NXT women continued to deliver and will only serve to doom Team Bella in the eyes of the passionate fanbase going forward.
