WWE Hell in a Cell 2015: Most Memorable Moments in Event's History
The Hell in a Cell structure has made for some memorable moments down the years, especially since it become a full-fledged pay-per-view of its own several years ago.
From controversial endings to pay-per-views to questionable championship wins or even just moments that rank as outright spectacular, there have been plenty of special memories through the years.
With Brock Lesnar and Undertaker set to main event this year's show and Seth Rollins likely to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Kane, there's potential for more controversy and special moments this year.
As we approach Hell in a Cell 2015 on October 25, let's take a look back at some of the most memorable moments to date.
Brad Maddox Screws Ryback (2012)
1 of 4
After CM Punk turned heel at the beginning of 2012 and aligned himself with Paul Heyman, he and Ryback immediately seemed to be on a major collision course.
They were eventually booked to square off for Punk's WWE Championship inside the cell at the 2012 event, and after a fairly decent match, it seemed that Ryback was on track to win his first major title with WWE.
He lined Punk up for his Shell Shocked manoeuvre, but before he had chance to hit it, referee Brad Maddox decided to stop Ryback in his tracks and hit him with a low blow.
Punk would then hit a roll-up pin, and with a fast count and extra pressure from Maddox on the pin, Punk was crowned the winner.
Maddox would try to escape, but before he had chance, Ryback brutally attacked him before going after Punk. The champ was on the top of the cell, but Ryback eventually tracked him down, laying him out on the top as the show went off the air in style.
The Miz and R-Truth Invade the Cell (2011)
2 of 4
Back in 2011, the main event of Hell in a Cell pitted Alberto Del Rio, John Cena and CM Punk together in a match for the WWE Championship.
There was a separate story going into the bout concerning the suspension of both The Miz and R-Truth from WWE after they attacked a number of officials.
After Del Rio scored the winning pinfall to win the match and the championship, the cell was raised, and two hooded assailants started attacking the competitors. They took out everyone in their sights, lowering the cell and attacking referees, cameramen and the wrestlers alike.
What would follow was a brutal attack from Triple H after they were eventually taken out of the cell, which proved to be a chaotic and outstanding end to the pay-per-view.
HBK Lays out Daniel Bryan (2013)
3 of 4
The 2013 edition of Hell in a Cell was built around the rivalry surrounding Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton and The Authority.
Bryan had just been screwed by Triple H at SummerSlam to enable Orton to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and become the new WWE champion, and the latest match in their rivalry was set up inside the cell.
As an extra twist, Shawn Michaels, Bryan's mentor, was booked as the special guest referee, and after a chaotic ending to the match, Bryan inadvertently knocked Michaels over.
It was an accident, and after Bryan took down Triple H with his running knee, Michaels responded by laying Bryan out with a Sweet Chin Music.
That allowed Orton to score the win and ensured that Bryan had been screwed by Triple H and The Authority once more.
Bray Wyatt Interrupts the Main Event (2014)
4 of 4
The rivalry between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose was one of 2014's best, largely driven by the controversial breakup of The Shield midway through the year.
Ambrose and Rollins had produced a stellar rivalry that largely involved Rollins' ducking out of the way at the last minute, but when they were booked to fight inside the cell last year, it was obvious there would be nowhere for Rollins to hide.
The match itself was enjoyable, and it looked like Ambrose was on course to beat Rollins and finally get one over on his rival.
But then the lights dropped, and from nowhere, a lantern emerged in the middle of the ring. Suddenly, Ambrose was taken down by Bray Wyatt, setting up their rivalry for the latter part of the year.
It was a moment that didn't sit comfortably with some due to the controversial ending to Rollins vs. Ambrose, but it was a great moment from a pretty decent pay-per-view.
