John Mara Comments on Jason Pierre-Paul's Status After Fireworks Accident
New York Giants owner John Mara says the team has not seen defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul since a July 4 fireworks accident that resulted in his right index finger being amputated.
"We have no idea what condition he's in," Mara said Thursday, per Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Pierre-Paul, 26, reportedly suffered burns, a broken thumb and needed his right index finger amputated following the July 4 incident. Details about the events leading up to his accident have remain shrouded in mystery, with Pierre-Paul remaining out of the public spotlight. The Pro Bowler refused to meet with Giants officials who traveled to Florida to meet with him and examine his hand, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

“I don’t think JPP is receiving very good advice right now,’’ Mara said Tuesday.
Two days later, Mara took a more pleading tact, saying, "Come home. We miss you," per Bob Glauber of Newsday.
Until Giants doctors meet with Pierre-Paul, his status for the 2015 season remains in question. The team could begin fining Pierre-Paul for missing training camp activities, with the maximum coming in at $30,000 per day. Pierre-Paul is due to make $14.81 million as the team's franchise player for this season, but there are real questions about his long-term future. Mara said "nothing is on the table now until we see him" regarding a long-term contract extension, per Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News.
Pierre-Paul made 77 tackles and 12.5 sacks last season. The Giants will have to find a way to replace that production if he's out an extended period of time.
"I think we have to plan on being without him," Mara said, per Glauber.
The problem is, at this point, not even the team knows how long that will be.
