Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea and Sergio Ramos Rumours
David De Gea's move to Real Madrid appears increasingly less likely to happen this summer after manager Rafael Benitez admitted he did not know what the latest news on the Spaniard's future was.
According to Colin Harvey of the Daily Star, Benitez said of the situation: "I don't know. He is not here and I don't know. I don't speak to [Manchester United manager Louis] van Gaal every day."
The Spaniard's comments come in the wake of Benitez praising Keylor Navas and claiming the Costa Rican could become his new No. 1, per Goal's Michael Huguenin. Meanwhile, De Gea impressed for Manchester United in their 3-1 friendly win over Barcelona in the United States on Saturday.
De Gea has less than a year left on his current United contract, so Los Blancos may opt to wait and sign the player for free next summer rather than pay the £35 million United are hoping for, per Harvey's report.
Despite selling Iker Casillas to Porto, Real can afford to spend a season with Navas as their No. 1.
The 28-year-old featured just six times last season, but in the season prior, Navas enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Levante, as WhoScored.com notes:
Navas also performed exceptionally well on the biggest stage of all, shining for Costa Rica at the World Cup as they escaped a group including Italy, England and Uruguay.
De Gea's move to the Bernabeu seems an inevitability at this point, but as the summer wears on, it appears the Madridistas will be forced to wait to see De Gea don a Real shirt.
With Navas an able stopgap, however, Madrid needn't worry about their ability to compete next season.
Benitez Confident Sergio Ramos Will Stay
While Benitez may not be sure of De Gea's immediate future, he is convinced about Sergio Ramos'.
According to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, he said at a recent press conference: "Sergio has known from day one that I want him to stay and I'm sure that he'll stay with us."

As Bajkowski notes, Real are naturally reluctant to allow such an important player to depart. This will particularly be the case when it comes to a potential European rival such as United.
Sports journalist Jonas Giaever highlighted the qualities that make the Spaniard so valuable to Madrid and so coveted by the Red Devils:
There is sure to be more toing and froing in both the De Gea and Ramos transfer sagas, and it seems they are intrinsically linked.
In theory, with each club having a valuable player the other wants, an exchange should be simple to negotiate. However, the reality is far more complex, as each club has a multitude of factors to consider.
It's certainly not inconceivable that Ramos and De Gea will swap clubs—but it's just as, if not more, likely that neither will move this summer.
