USA vs. Jamaica: Date, Time, Live Stream, More for 2015 Gold Cup Semifinal
The United States' bid to repeat as Gold Cup champions continues with a semifinal clash against Jamaica on Wednesday night. The Reggae Boyz should provide far more resistance than Cuba did in the previous round, a 6-0 win for the Americans.
Although the USMNT is undefeated in the tournament, the side has showcased merely mediocre form and took advantage of an undermanned Cuban side. Attacking players other than Clint Dempsey, who has tallied an event-leading six goals, must step up if the team is going to capture the title.
Let's check out all of the important information for the semifinal match followed by a preview for what could be a drama-filled night in Atlanta.

Semifinal Preview
It's fair to consider this a "trap game" for the United States. The Americans are coming off a dominant victory over Cuba. A potential championship encounter with rival Mexico awaits if both sides are able to survive the semifinals. El Tri will battle Panama in the second match on Wednesday.
Although the USMNT features the more talented and deeper squad, Jamaica is a veteran groupโ16 players who are at least 25 years oldโthat has fought the USA hard in the past. U.S. Soccer highlighted the narrow margin for error in most of the previous meetings:
The one thing the Reggae Boyz lack is a go-to striker. The leading international scorer on the current roster is defender Demar Phillips with 12 goals.
In turn, they are likely to follow the same formula most CONCACAF teams use against the United States and Mexico: defend and counterattack. It can cause serious frustrations, especially for a side that's lacking attacking chemistry, and spark an upset bid with a single goal.
The plan of attack also creates some matchup questions for Jurgen Klinsmann.
He may stick with his base lineup, which features Kyle Beckerman in a defensive role, at the outset. If it's a scoreless game at halftime, however, the more creative Mix Diskerud could come into the game to bring more of an attacking flair. He handled it well in a warm-up match against Guatemala.
Graham Zusi could enter in favor of Alejandro Bedoya, who has had his moments for the United States, but often puts together lackluster performances as the focus shifts more toward offense, too.
Just as important as the game plan is getting everybody to understand the challenge. It'd be easy to look past Jamaica. But DaMarcus Beasley, who returned from international retirement to provide defensive depth, explained why the U.S. can't afford to do that, as noted by Brian Straus ofย Sports Illustrated.
"They're a lot more organized," Beasley said. "They've got players individually that can hurt you but for me, they're more sound defensively. They've always had good attacking players, even 10-15 years ago. But now, they're adding their defensive experience in the back four, organization that the coaches brought into the team. They're going to be a very tough team to break down."
The style of play creates a tough dynamic. The United States wants to play aggressively so it's not 0-0 deep into the match. At the same time, playing a high line and making a single mistake could lead to a Jamaica lead, and then the challenge is far more difficult.
It's going to take some patience. The Americans need to work the ball around the attacking third with simple passes to avoid those easy counterattacking opportunities. They must wait for a chance to go at a defender one-on-one or whip a cross into the box, where Dempsey has been on fire with his head.
They just can't make it too complicated because they are heavy favorites, as highlighted by Paul Carr of ESPN, for a reason:
This is a match the United States should win. If it doesn't, not only does the repeat bid come to an end, but the team would also be forced to face the eventual champion in a one-match playoff for a berth in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
If the Americans limit their mistakes, and Brad Guzan steps up in the few moments he's called upon, a 1-0 or 2-0 victory is likely. Should they start giving the ball away frequently and letting Jamaica get out in space, an upset could very well be in the cards.
Either way, expect a far more entertaining, competitive match than the quarterfinal blowout.
