United Increase Muller Bid; Striker Reportedly Interested
Tuesday, Aug. 18
A report by Sport BILD (h/t Oluwashina Okeleji of BBC Sport) stated United have offered €85 million (£60 million) for the versatile forward.
This is significantly more than the fee reported by Sport on Monday. The Spanish publication claimed "United are prepared to commit up to £56.7 million of their transfer funds to sign [Muller] from Bayern," per Jamie Sanderson of Metro.
Muller has confided in friends he is interested in a move to United, where he would link back up with Bastian Schweinsteiger, reported the Express' John Richardson on Aug. 16. He knows his wages would enjoy "a hefty rise," Richardson added.
According to Sport Bild (h/t Sanderson) on July 29, "Van Gaal has ordered United chief executive [Ed] Woodward to do the deal."
Rummenigge Rubbishes Muller Exit Talk
Wednesday, July 29
Rummenigge expects Muller to remain with Bayern far beyond his retirement, per Sport Bild (h/t Peter McVitie of Goal.com):
"I have the feeling that Thomas is at Bayern for life and will never leave. When Thomas one day ends his playing career, we would like to integrate him into the club in another role. He is totally comfortable in Munich. I do not think that our fans have to worry.
"
Rummenigge's stance has been defiant throughout the summer. "We would be out of our minds to sell Muller," he said on July 23, per talkSPORT.
He earlier labelled rumours of Muller's exit as plausible as "a flying duck over the ocean," according to Goal.com, insisting no further Bayern players would follow Schweinsteiger to Old Trafford, per Alex Shaw of ESPN.com.

Muller is one of the hottest commodities in world football at present, having spent his entire professional career with the Bundesliga powerhouse and earned 63 caps for the Germany national team.
He is something of an icon at Bayern, and his potential sale would likely anger Munich fans.
