Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Robin van Persie, David De Gea Rumours
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to sell Robin van Persie and David De Gea by the time his squad flies to the United States for their pre-season tour on Monday, according to David McDonnell of the Mirror.
It is suggested the Dutchman doesn't want to waste time working with the duo who are currently linked with moves to Fenerbahce and Real Madrid, respectively. Instead, he only wants those who will feature in next season's first-team plans to make the trip.
Van Persie feels "betrayed" by his imminent sale, according to the Sun. Marc Williams of the Daily Star cited this report and indicated RvP "has been forced out by Van Gaal," a manager he enjoyed a prosperous relationship with during their time in the Netherlands fold.
B/R UK highlighted the media speculation following this situation:
Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star believes Van Gaal will look to replace his countryman with Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, a player who could set United back £60 million. However, Cross noted Bayern are "reluctant to sell" their influential star.
Wayne Rooney is the only senior striker Van Gaal will have at his disposal in the United States. Youngster James Wilson was given a handful of opportunities to impress last season and could be a useful option, but the Red Devils desperately need proven goalscoring talent.
Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, Paris Saint-German's Edinson Cavani and Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette are outlined as options by Cross. Although Javier Hernandez remains at the club, he is currently injured and has never tickled the fancy of Van Gaal, who loaned him to Madrid last season. Sevilla could snap him up, reported Simon Jones of the MailOnline.

De Gea's saga with Madrid continues to roll on without any major progress being made. McDonnell noted United want £35 million—a hefty amount for a goalkeeper who has one year left on his contract—but that a "compromise figure" is likely to be reached.
The Spanish stopper has made no public attempt to halt speculation linking him with a move to the Bernabeu. He has turned down a £200,000 per week contract extension at United and is destined to return to Spain, where he made his name with Los Blancos' rivals Atletico Madrid.
Van Gaal landed former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes in January, so he at least has an adequate replacement for De Gea if the player leaves. The more immediate task should be to replace Van Persie with a player who can regularly hit 20 Premier League goals per season for United.
B/R UK's Sam Tighe looked at the possible stars who could be brought in:
The loss of De Gea and RvP—two players who were pivotal in the 2013 title-winning campaign—shouldn't be understated. They are two of United's biggest names and rank among the squad's most likely to decide a match. Van Gaal's changing of the squad, whether forced or not, is going to take time to settle.
However, it's likely anyone who's brought in will be expected to make an instant impact. Van Gaal needs to combine experienced quality with those who are hungry to impress ahead of a challenging season across four competitions.
