2025 NFL Schedule Released for Official Regular-Season Slate

Joseph ZuckerMay 14, 2025

Another important benchmark of the NFL offseason is here as the league announced the full 2025 schedules for all 32 teams.

Fans have known for months which opponents will match up on the gridiron, but the schedule release has become an anticipated event in the lull between the draft and the start of training camp.

As is the custom, the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the new campaign at home on Sept. 4 against the division rival Dallas Cowboys.

Division to Watch

NFC North

The NFC North had three playoff representatives in 2024 and the division figures to be just as competitive in 2025. If anything, the gap between the top and bottom could shrink a bit since the fourth-place Chicago Bears should finish better than 5-12.

Ben Johnson is an upgrade at head coach over Matt Eberflus, and Caleb Williams showed some encouraging signs in the second half of his rookie year. He threw for 1,525 yards and 11 touchdowns and to one interception in Chicago's' final seven games.

Meanwhile, none of the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings or Green Bay Packers has suffered the kind of personnel losses that foreshadow a decline.

As expected, the Lions lost their two coordinators with Johnson going to Chicago and Aaron Glenn accepting the New York Jets' job. Otherwise, Detroit is pretty much running it back with the same team that won 15 games.

In addition, the Eagles showed coaching continuity only counts for so much. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio were each in their first year on the staff as Philly lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Vikings are arguably the biggest wild card in the NFC North because so much rests on the shoulders of a young, unproven quarterback.

Sam Darnold's departure and the team's decision not to pursue Aaron Rodgers means the offense is in the hands of J.J. McCarthy, who was sidelined for all of 2024 because of a torn meniscus.

When C.J. Stroud, Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels have led their teams to the playoffs in their first year as a starter, it would be premature to write off McCarthy and Minnesota.

Most Anticipated Matchup

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills

Quite frankly, there isn't a more consistently entertaining head-to-head battle than the one between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

Since the start of the 2020 season, the two teams have faced off nine times. Four of those were in the playoffs and the last six have been decided by single digits.

In last year alone, Bills quarterback Josh Allen delivered the signature highlight of an MVP season with his late touchdown run against Kansas City.

Then the Chiefs avenged that loss in the AFC title game, with Harrison Butker's 35-yard field goal the difference in a 32-29 win. Allen's 237 passing yards and two touchdowns were all for naught. Patrick Mahomes went for 245 yards and one score through the air while running for 43 yards and two touchdowns.

Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to a team's Super Bowl aspirations, but Kansas City and Buffalo are two of the AFC's strongest squads. Their 2025 meeting should have some of the highest stakes of any non-divisional encounter.
