The Packers went 11-6 last season but disappointingly lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Round. Still, quarterback Jordan Love and running back Josh Jacobs give Green Bay a strong opportunity to compete for a spot in the Super Bowl this year.
The upcoming slate for the Packers won't be easy, but Love and company will be focused on earning the franchise's first Lombardi Trophy since the 2010 season.
Analysis
The Packers are tied for the fifth-hardest schedule in the NFL based on last year's records. However, finishing third in the NFC North allowed for winnable matchups against fellow third-place finishers, the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.
NFC North teams will be playing the entire NFC East and AFC North, presenting a difficult slate for Green Bay. In addition to facing the defending champion Eagles, the Packers will be up against a resurgent Washington Commanders team led by Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels and a hungry Dallas Cowboys team led by a recovered Dak Prescott following his season-ending hamstring surgery.
Three out of four teams in the AFC North finished last season with a record above .500, and the competition level will remain the same in 2025. The Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers all reloaded to compete for playoff spots this year, and they will be motivated to earn wins outside of their cutthroat division.
Still, the Packers will benefit from easy games against rebuilding teams like the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, neither of whom is expected to be much improved from their respective 3-14 finishes to last season.
Pivotal Matchups
Of course, when an 11-6 record is only good enough for a third-place finish, it's clear that Green Bay's biggest competition lies within its own division. The Packers went just 1-5 in the NFC North last season and will need to fare better in 2025 if they want to establish themselves as true title contenders.
The reigning NFC North champion Detroit Lions are expected to contend for a spot in the Super Bowl once again. After their upset loss to the Commanders in the Divisional Round, the Lions will be driven to make a deeper run this year.
The Minnesota Vikings will look a little different following the departure of quarterback Sam Darnold. However, the team seems confident that 2024 No. 10 pick J.J. McCarthy will be ready to bounce back from the torn meniscus that cost him his entire rookie season.
The Chicago Bears are beginning a new era after hiring Ben Johnson as head coach. The former architect of the Lions offense will now be tasked with leading the development of 2024 No. 1 pick Caleb Williams, who is coming off a substandard rookie year.
Defeating their division foes will be crucial for the Packers as they try to make their way through their tough schedule. Winning easy matchups against teams like the Giants, Browns and Panthers will also help improve Green Bay's chances to climb toward the top of the NFC in 2025.
