Seahawks 2025 NFL Schedule Released for Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp's Debut Season

Zach BacharMay 14, 2025

There aren't many NFL teams that underwent more changes during the 2025 offseason than the Seattle Seahawks.

But after compiling a winning record despite missing the playoffs in each of the past two years, Seattle will look to finally return to the postseason in 2025.

As the Seahawks enter their second year under head coach Mike Macdonald, they'll have a new face under center.

Seattle signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year deal worth $100.5 million in free agency following his breakout 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Geno Smith, who started 52 games for the Seahawks since 2021, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a third-round draft pick.

Seattle also brought in a new weapon for Darnold, signing wide receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $45 million contract following his release from the Los Angeles Rams.

Kupp will attempt to make up the production lost after the Seahawks traded star wideout DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and cut ties with veteran receiver Tyler Lockett.

Analysis

While the NFC West wasn't as fearsome in 2024 compared to past years, no team was truly dismal. The San Francisco 49ers ended the year in the No. 4 spot with a 6-11 mark, although the 49ers still held the best record among any team to finish last in their division.

San Francisco is looking to bounce back in 2025 with healthier seasons from key offensive contributors such as Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, while the Los Angeles Rams are attempting to win a second straight division crown.

The Arizona Cardinals' win total doubled from 2023 to 2024 and the team also has its sights set on a playoff berth under head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are also slated to experience cross-conference matchups with the AFC South.

This could allow Seattle to stack up wins, as the four AFC South squads finished with a combined record of 25-43 in 2024. That represented the worst total mark of any AFC division.

If the Seahawks can improve upon their 6-6 conference record from last season and record multiple victories over their AFC South opponents, they should find themselves in the playoff race once again.

Pivotal Matchups

Seattle's clash with the Vikings should carry extra weight for Darnold while also serving as an important matchup for a potential wild card berth.

Macdonald's defense will attempt to put pressure on Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who's expected to enter his first season as a starter in 2025. The Seahawks already ranked No. 10 in the NFL with 45 sacks last season and signed four-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency.

The Seahawks split their two games against the Rams in 2024, with Los Angeles ultimately clinching a division title with a strength of victory tiebreaker after both teams finished with 10-7 records.

Seattle could have earned the NFC West crown with a sweep of the Rams, but the Seahawks suffered a 26-20 overtime loss to their division rival in Week 9.

While the clash with Los Angeles will obviously carry postseason implications, Kupp could also have some added motivation to beat the team that he spent the first eight years of his career with.

The Seahawks should additionally look to take care of business against teams with their sights set on the future such as the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans.
