Jason Pierre-Paul May Potentially Face Criminal Charges After Fireworks Accident
The Jason Pierre-Paul saga stemming from a fireworks incident on Saturday continues to take strange turns. On Tuesday, a report surfaced that the New York Giants defensive lineman was being investigated by the Coral Springs Police Department.
Jordan Raanan of NJ Advance Media provided details:
"The Coral Springs (Fla.) Police Department has launched an investigation into the fireworks accident that injured Jason Pierre-Paul, and depending on the facts they gather, the Giants defensive end could face charges that include criminal possession of fireworks, Coral Springs Public Information Officer Capt. Brad McKeon told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday.

However, J.P. Pelzman of the Record reported that the Coral Springs Police Department is no longer investigating Pierre-Paul for criminal charges "unless new information surfaces."
Pelzman did note that Pierre-Paul may not be in the clear yet:
Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports added that he's spoken to multiple police departments in Florida, and they may proceed with an investigation "once they determine where (the) incident occurred."
Pierre-Paul suffered a serious hand injury on the Fourth of July, according to Andy Slater of 940 WINZ. The 26-year-old is seeking a long-term contract, as the Giants placed the franchise tag on him earlier in the offseason.
ESPN.com's Dan Graziano reported Pierre-Paul has burns on one of his hands and doctors were "checking his fingers for nerve damage," but the "prognosis is not terrible."
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport (via Kevin Patra of NFL.com) reported Pierre-Paul's injury caused the Giants to withdraw a $60 million contract offer they had on the table.
Pierre-Paul is facing many problems at the moment. He still hasn't signed the franchise deal, and franchised players have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal with their teams.
The former first-round pick is coming off one of his best seasons with 12.5 sacks, but he's got to worry about off-field issues and hoping his hand recovers properly before thinking about getting back on the field.
