Adil Rami to Sevilla: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More
Sevilla officially announced the arrival of French centre-back Adil Rami on Tuesday, as the 29-year-old will return to La Liga after a spell in Serie A with AC Milan.
The club introduced him during a press conference, according to PA Sport (via ESPN FC).
The France international told reporters the chance to work with manager Unai Emery played an important role in his decision, via Football Italia:
"Emery was important, but Sevilla is a big club, that’s why I’m here. I have a lot of respect for Milan, but now I’m working with the best Coach in the world. I couldn’t be happier.
I’m only thinking about working hard and expressing my style of play, you have to be a leader or you won’t be seen.
"
Per Sevilla's official Twitter account, a deal was struck between both clubs days ago, and on Tuesday the veteran had his medical:
As reported by Football Italia, Milan released a statement on their website thanking the defender for his hard work: "A smiling and calm guy off the pitch, and very strong on the pitch: Adil Rami, from this morning, is a Sevilla player. From Milan and from all Milanisti a kind and strong embrace. Good luck!”
Rami joined the Rossoneri in 2014 at a time when the Italian giants were in turmoil, having fallen well below the lofty expectations Milan have set for themselves over the years.
His versatility and powerful playing style quickly made him a favourite of fans at the San Siro, but his addition didn't have the desired effect on the club's performances.
Milan finished both the 2013-14 and the 2014-15 seasons outside of the European slots, and with manager Sinisa Mihajlovic now leading the club, the Rossoneri will start the slow climb back to the pinnacle of European football.
Rami is still in the prime of his football career and a solid centre-back, and while Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia) previously reported he could have been used in the deal to bring Carlos Bacca to the San Siro, it now seems the two clubs found a way to come to an agreement without having to resort to complicated swap deals.
Rami will add some experience and physicality to Sevilla's back line, as the Europa League champions attempt to translate their success on that stage into a fine run in the UEFA Champions League.
