Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: Game 4 Odds Preview, Betting Stats
The Cleveland Cavaliers are big home favorites and are in position to complete a sweep and advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2007 when they host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Tuesday.
Cleveland grinded out a tough 114-111 overtime victory in Game 3 on Sunday behind a gritty effort from star LeBron James but failed to cover the spread for the first time in the series as the eight-point home favorite.
The Cavaliers won each of the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals as road underdogs and will be similar chalk in Game 4 despite the fact that the status of point guard Kyrie Irving is still up in the air. Irving has missed the last two games of the series with a knee injury, but the Cavs have not needed him thanks to James, who has averaged nearly 33 points in the first three games.
James was able to overcome some cramping issues to score a game-high 37 points, grab 18 rebounds and dish out 13 assists in Game 3.
The Hawks lost center Al Horford to a flagrant foul on Cleveland guard Matthew Dellavedova in the second quarter after he scored 14 points. They were already playing without three-point specialist Kyle Korver, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury when Dellavedova fell on his leg in Game 2 while going for a loose ball.
However, Atlanta hung in there and engineered a late rally to force overtime. Jeff Teague ended up with a team-high 30 points.
Game 3 was the highest-scoring game of this Hawks vs. Cavaliers betting matchup, tied at 104-104 heading into the extra session to easily go over the closing total of 190. Each of the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals went under the total, with the Cavs holding the Hawks to an average of just 85.5 points.
Atlanta had not scored more than 94 points in any of its previous four games, with all of them finishing under the total, according to the Odds Shark NBA database. Cleveland allowed more than 100 points for only the second time this postseason, as the under had cashed in four of the team's previous five before Game 3 along with eight of 11.
