Westbrook Scores 54 Points to Match Durant's Franchise Record
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook scored a career-high 54 points in Sunday's 116-104 loss to the Indiana Pacers, matching forward Kevin Durant's franchise record for most points in a single regular-season game, per ESPN Stats & Info.
The 26-year-old guard was responsible for 43 of his team's 95 field-goal attempts (45.3 percent), with 21 of those (48.9 percent) being successful. He made five of his 15 shots from beyond the arc and hit seven of his 11 attempts from the free-throw line.
Westbrook also added nine rebounds, eight assists and a steal, falling just a bit shy of his 12th triple-double this season, while turning the ball over only twice.
Durant originally set the Thunder's single-game record of 54 points last January, when he made 19 of his 28 field-goal attempts in a 127-121 win over the Golden State Warriors, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.
Unsurprisingly, Westbrook did not play in that game, which was part of a memorable hot streak that led to Durant's first MVP award.
While the Thunder are obviously much better off with both superstars healthy, NBA fans get to witness some remarkable individual performances when one of the two is sidelined.
