2015 NFL Free Agency: Latest Rumblings on Greg Hardy and Other Top FAs

Daniel RogersMar 18, 2015

As interesting as the first wave of free agency was this yearand it was very interestingthis is the time when the men are separated from the boys. With almost all of the big names already off the market, this is the time when the front offices have to work extremely hard to earn their paychecks.

There are still some interesting pieces available, whether it be one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL or an offensive lineman in a relatively weak free-agent field for the position.

Which teams will the remaining players sign with, and who is set to make the biggest splash? Here are the latest discussions surrounding the top players available.

Greg Hardy to the Dallas Cowboys

Perhaps the last player with truly elite talent that has yet to sign, former Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is an interesting case for NFL teams.

Inarguably one of the best defensive players in the league, Hardy comes with a number of off-the-field issues that kept him out last season because of a domestic-violence case that was later dropped.

Despite taking longer than anticipated, it looks like Hardy is close to finding his landing spot, with a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.

The Dallas Cowboys have been active this offseason on offense, tagging Dez Bryant and allowing DeMarco Murray to go to the Philadelphia Eagles, but there haven’t been any high-profile moves on the other side of the ball.

Hardy, though, could change all that. In 2013, the defensive end was a Pro Bowl selection and finished the year with a franchise-record 15 sacks, and he is still in his prime as an athlete.

The Buccaneers are also in the running for Hardy, but whoever ends up signing the defensive end, it will be a serious boost to the team's hopes next season.

What About Rolando McClain?

It is just me, or is Rolando McClain being significantly overlooked in this free-agent landscape? An incredibly talented linebacker, it is hard to believe that teams have not been jumping at the chance to secure his abilities.

Last year, McClain finished with 81 tackles, a sack and two interceptions after returning from a yearlong retirement and looks to just be reaching the prime of his career.

Although his injury history isn’t great, nor is his occasional run in-with the law, McClain’s talent is hard to overlook and could benefit a team greatly.

If the linebacker can repeat his numbers from last season, or even build on them, he will be an impact player on any defense in the league, so it is a wonder why teams have yet to jump on McClain. It sounds as though the Cowboys are interested in re-signing him, per Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News, which would give Dallas a talented front-seven to help with a playoff push.

McClain could prove one of the biggest bargains of the season, especially if his price tag drops significantly because of the apparent lack of interest.

Where Does Stefen Wisniewski Land?

One of the biggest splashes this offseason was made when the Seattle Seahawks dealt center Max Unger to the Saints for Jimmy Graham. Although the addition of Graham is huge, as it adds another weapon for quarterback Russell Wilson, it does leave a hole on the offensive line.

Lemuel Jeanpierre did a good job coming in for the injured Unger at points last year, but another cheap, talented center wouldn’t hurt to bolster the line for a team that is Super Bowl or bust again this season.

Enter Stefen Wisniewski. The former Raider just finished the last year of his rookie deal, and he will be looking to get paid a little more this time around, but it could be worth it for the Seahawks, who met with the center last week.

A talented center who was one of the few bright spots in Oakland in recent seasons, Wisniewski has drawn interest from a number of teams around the league looking to improve their lines. He isn't perfect, but in a center market that is almost nonexistent, Wisniewski is the best option for teams.

But Seattle is one of the most attractive teams in the league, offering an ability to contend immediately and at least a chance to battle with Jeanpierre for the starting position.
