Golden State Warriors Outscore Opponents by Average of 22.2 Points on Homestand
With Friday's 112-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors became just the second team in NBA history to go undefeated on a homestand of six or more games while posting an average margin of victory of 21 points or better, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com).
The Warriors finished the 6-0 stretch with an average margin of 22.2 points, falling just short of the 23.0 posted by the 1988-89 Cleveland Cavaliers on a six-game homestand.
Golden State won each of the six games by at least 13 points, with wins of 110-97 over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 126-86 over the Philadelphia 76ers, 126-105 over the Toronto Raptors, 117-91 over the Oklahoma City Thunder, 117-102 over the Indiana Pacers and 112-94 over the Cavaliers.
The impressive stretch pushed Golden State's record to an NBA-best 29-5, giving the team a two-game lead over the Portland Trail Blazers (28-8) in the race for the Western Conference's No. 1 seed.
The Warriors appear even more impressive when you look at point differential, as their mark of 11.0 makes them the NBA's only team above 7.2. Portland is second at 7.2, closely followed by the Dallas Mavericks at 7.1.
While both Portland and Dallas look like viable contenders for the No. 1 seed, the Warriors are a real threat to run away with it, despite playing in a conference that makes such a feat nearly impossible. No team has won the Western Conference by more than four games since 2008-09, when the 65-17 Los Angeles Lakers remarkably finished 11 games ahead of every other team on their way to an NBA title.
The Lakers went 36-5 at home this year, and the Warriors are off to a 16-1 start at Oracle Arena in 2014-15.
