Edinson Cavani Deals Transfer Blow to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United

Nick AkermanOct 30, 2014

Edinson Cavani has revealed he and Paris Saint-Germain have "found a solution" to the problems plaguing his time in Ligue 1, harming Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United's chances of luring him away from the Parc des Princes.

The aforementioned Premier League clubs are reportedly tracking Cavani, per Anthony Chapman of the Daily Express, with many believing the "unsettled" star will eventually seal a move across the Channel.

Cavani, who previously admitted he was unhappy with playing on the left of Laurent Blanc's attacking 4-3-3 line-up, has now revealed any concerns have disappeared since the start of the season.

"This year everything is fine," said Cavani, as reported by Uruguayan radio station AM1010 (via the Press Association, h/t FIFA.com). "I am in Paris, the city is beautiful and the club supports me."

The 27-year-old also acknowledged his previous comments of discontent, confirming he no longer feels the same [sic]: "This comments caused some problems, but they were not against the coach, the president or anyone else. I expressed my frustration, but that didn't mean I had a bad relationship with any of them. Sometimes these things can lead to a problem, but other times to a solution. We found a solution."

Cavani has suffered with a lack of confidence throughout the season, posting some frankly lacklustre performances prior to his important Champions League winner against APOEL, which appears to have reignited his confidence.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's continued absence has afforded Cavani a run in his favoured striker's position. He went four games without scoring prior to netting against Lens, a match in which he was controversially sent off for his "gun celebration."

The last-gasp goal against APOEL followed, providing a sense that he is ready to consistently deliver for the French champions.

Ligue 1 writer Jonathan Johnson believes Cavani's ability to hit the mark against the Cypriot side highlighted his true quality, as noted during his B/R UK column: "Although it might sound like an overreaction, only a truly world-class striker can manage to eke out such a goal late in a tight game like that during a barren spell of personal form."

Cavani has scored seven in 14 appearances across the domestic division, Coupe de France and Champions League this campaign.

He isn't as flashy as Zlatan, but his work rate and ability to offer PSG quality across the pitch has the potential to be key for Blanc's energetic team. A consistent goalscoring run and greater showing of responsibility is most important for the player right now, though.

The player's best attributes can be seen below:

Cavani averages 3.5 shots per match and completes 0.6 dribbles with a pass accuracy of 84.8 percent, perhaps underlining his willingness to move the ball on too quickly this season. Whether that has been down to a lack of confidence or instructions from Blanc—who likes to bring widemen such as Lucas and Ezequiel Lavezzi into play—it would be encouraging to see Cavani want the ball more often.

He hasn't played with the ferociousness of Napoli's old battering ram, nor has he found the finishing touch which made PSG drop £55 million on his services. That said, positive comments in the press go a long way to letting the club know Cavani is willing to put everything right.

The "solution," whatever it may be, couldn't come at a better time for the capital-based club. PSG would have likely been forced into fending off bids for Cavani in January if he wasn't playing well and aired his frustration again. Speculation could now die down, letting the player concentrate on finding his prolific form.
