10 Great Liverpool vs. Newcastle United Games
Liverpool's latest stop-off in their Premier League season takes them to Newcastle United's St James' Park on Saturday, as one of the classic English football fixtures gets a new chapter.
Over the years there have been some high-profile meetings between the pair, with Liverpool usually coming out on top over Newcastle—who haven't won at Anfield since a League Cup tie in 1995.
Here are just 10 memorable matches between the Reds and the Magpies.
Liverpool 3 Newcastle 0, FA Cup Final, 1974
1 of 10In what would prove to be Bill Shankly's final match as Liverpool manager before retirement, the Reds turned on a vintage display to beat Newcastle 3-0 at Wembley to seal the second FA Cup won by the legendary Scot.
It took almost an hour for the Reds' dominance to turn into goals, with Kevin Keegan grabbing the opener, Steve Heighway scoring the second and then Keegan wrapping up the win with a third late on, all to the commentary of the BBC's iconic David Coleman.

Keegan would prove to be a huge figure in these contests down the years, as the ex-Reds and Newcastle forward led the Magpies back up to the top flight in 1993.
Once there, a hat-trick from forward Andy Cole inside the first half hour of the game sealed a 3-0 win over Graeme Souness' Reds, who were completely overrun by a home side thriving on the deadly finishing of Cole, who was by now a firm favourite at St James' Park.
Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3, Premier League, 1996

Usually described as one of, if not the greatest Premier League match ever, Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-3 on a remarkable night at Anfield in April 1996.
Robbie Fowler's two goals had helped the Reds seek to gain an advantage, but Keegan's Newcastle side just kept on coming back and led midway through the second half thanks to goals from Les Ferdinand, David Ginola and Faustino Asprilla.
Enter Bleacher Report's very own Stan Collymore, who converted Jason McAteer's cross to level matters at 3-3 before unforgettably smashing home a left-footed winner in front of the Kop following good work from veterans Ian Rush and John Barnes.

Eleven months on from that 4-3 clash at Anfield, history repeated itself as Kenny Dalglish took his place in the Anfield dugout as manager of Newcastle.
Roy Evans' Reds dominated the first half as goals from Steve McManaman, Patrik Berger and Fowler established a three-goal lead by half-time but—much like today—this Liverpool side wasn't exactly known for its defensive prowess.
Keith Gillespie, Faustino Asprilla and Warren Barton struck in the final 20 minutes to level the match at 3-3 and send the travelling Geordies wild, only for Fowler to rise and head home Stig Inge Bjornebye's cross in the final minute to seal another dramatic 4-3 victory.

Ruud Gullit was unveiled to the Newcastle fans before this meeting in August 1998, but the only star on show on the pitch turned out to be Michael Owen.
Fresh from making his name with England at the World Cup in France, Owen scored a first-half hat-trick to blow away Gullit's Magpies on Tyneside, with Patrik Berger adding another goal and the Newcastle consolation scored by World Cup-winning Frenchman Stephane Guivarc'h.
Neither Guivarc'h nor Gullit were going to prove to be a success.

Four months on from Gullit's nightmare start to life at St James' Park, Liverpool scored another four goals against his side as they fought back to win a remarkable game at Anfield.
Nolberto Solano struck to give the Magpies a first-half lead, but just a minute later future Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann was sent off for his second bookable offence.
However, that didn't stop Andreas Andersson doubling Newcastle's lead early in the second half, but then from leading 2-0 with 23 minutes to go, the visitors collapsed and conceded four times, with Owen and Karl-Heinz Riedle grabbing two goals each to seal a home win.
Liverpool 2 Newcastle 2, Premier League 2002

It might seem like Liverpool are always getting their own way against Newcastle, but they certainly didn't on this early September evening in 2002.
After a quiet first half, strikes from Hamann and Owen (a penalty) had put Liverpool 2-0 up and seemingly heading for victory into the final 10 minutes, only for Bobby Robson's visitors to hit back and score twice through Gary Speed and skipper Alan Shearer, who rose above Sami Hyypia to head home a corner just two minutes from time.

Rafael Benitez's Liverpool were on course to mount a title challenge when they arrived at St James's Park between Christmas and New Year 2008, and they proceeded to absolutely blow away Joe Kinnear's Newcastle.
Only the heroics of goalkeeper Shay Given kept Liverpool out in the first half hour, before quickfire goals from Steven Gerrard and Sami Hyypia established the away side's lead, only for a header from Newcastle's David Edgar to pull a scarcely deserved goal back.
No matter for Liverpool, though, as the Reds scored three times in the second half through a scrambled Ryan Babel effort, Gerrard's chip over Given when clean through and Xabi Alonso's penalty to seal a 5-1 victory and a place at the top of the table.

Roy Hodgson's Liverpool reign was starting to unravel as he took his mid-table Liverpool side to Newcastle in December 2010, when they ended up being well beaten.
In the opposite dugout Alan Pardew was taking charge of his first Newcastle match, and he saw his side take a deserved first-half lead through Kevin Nolan.
With the likes of Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Paul Konchesky, David Ngog and substitute Milan Jovanovic all featuring for Liverpool, Dirk Kuyt grabbed an equaliser early in the second period, before two goals in the final 10 minutes from Joey Barton and Andy Carroll sealed a home win.
Hodgson would be sacked less than a month later, whilst a few weeks on from that, Carroll became a Red.

Luis Suarez had just been banned for biting Branislav Ivanovic, but that wasn't going to dampen Liverpool's mood as they hammered Newcastle 6-0 at St James' Park at the end of Brendan Rodgers' first season with the club.
Liverpool dominated from the moment that Daniel Agger headed them in front within three minutes, with Jordan Henderson racing onto a Daniel Sturridge pass to add a second.
Sturridge scored twice early in the second half to make it 4-0, with substitute Fabio Borini scoring within seconds of coming on and Henderson grabbing another one—goals which sandwiched the sending off of Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy, as if the hosts' day couldn't get any worse.
