Dorsey's Recovery Stalled
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle provides an update from 49ers DC Vic Fangio, who spoke about Dorsey's recovery:
"I think Glenn’s at a point where he’s kind of stuck,” Fangio said. “I don’t think he’s taken any steps backwards. Nothing negative has happened. Just hasn’t taken that next step yet to where he feels like he can go out there and cut it loose yet.”
Fangio said Dorsey is healthy enough to play, but suggested he hasn’t fully regained his strength: “I don’t think he feels he’s close to being 100 percent to use it, the way you need to be able to use it down there in the trenches.

Dorsey Returns to Practice
The San Francisco 49ers have been banged up all season, but they received some good news amid a fortunately timed bye in Week 8.
Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports that nose tackle Glenn Dorsey, who tore his left biceps in training camp, has returned to the practice field as of Monday.
The team provided additional details on Dorsey's participation at practice:
Dorsey had been placed on the injured reserve/designated for return list after undergoing surgery to address the injury on Aug. 4. According to Inman, the 49ers had three weeks to either promote Dorsey to the active roster or to reassign him to IR for the rest of the season.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller mentioned Dorsey among San Francisco's key defensive contributors who have missed time this season:
Before Dorsey went down with his injury, Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh raved about the talented defensive lineman's impact since arriving in San Francisco in 2013.
"It's been A-plus-plus," said Harbaugh, per 49ers.com's Taylor Price. "What a great thing having him last year and (he) fit in so seamlessly with that talented group of defensive linemen and was a great contributor as a starter for us."
Unfortunately for the team, Niners defensive coordinator Vic Fangio hasn't had the luxury of deploying Dorsey in the trenches this year—and still might not get that chance. But the fact that Dorsey has returned to practice is a great sign, as the torn biceps could have very well ended his 2014 campaign altogether.
Considered a former first-round bust as an underachieving member of the Kansas City Chiefs for his first five NFL seasons, Dorsey has found a second wind in San Francisco. If he can maintain the momentum he produced in his maiden season with the Niners, their defense stands to improve a great deal.
That should be enough to help the team immensely in its bid to reach a fourth consecutive conference championship game.
