Cesena vs. Inter Milan: Winners and Losers from Serie A Game
Inter Milan secured their first away win of the Serie A season with a 1-0 victory over Cesena at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi on Sunday.
Mauro Icardi scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute after Cesena goalkeeper Nicola Leali was red-carded for a foul on Rodrigo Palacio.
Cesena hadn't won a game since Round 1 and hadn't beaten Inter since 1975, so this was a perfect opportunity for Walter Mazzarri's side to get back to winning ways. And although they didn't make it look easy, in the end they did manage to secure all three points.
Here are the individual winners and losers from the game.
Loser: Nicola Leali
1 of 5
It may have been a fairly innocuous challenge, but Nicola Leali's last-man foul on Rodrigo Palacio changed the course of the match in Inter's favour.
The Cesena goalkeeper arrived late to impede the Argentine striker, who was advancing on goal, which was enough to result in the referee pointing to the spot and dishing out a red card.
Icardi stepped up to slot the penalty past replacement keeper Federico Agliardi to ensure Cesena were both a man down and a goal down after 32 minutes.
The young keeper can notch this one down to experience.
Winner: Hernanes
2 of 5
After a slow start to the season where he struggled to make an impression, Inter playmaker Hernanes is starting to show the kind of form that made him a star at Lazio.
When the Brazilian is on his game he seems to have a tremendous amount of time on the ball, and he used his considerable skills to great effect against Cesena, dribbling past defenders, feeding plenty of quality ball to his forwards and threatening the goal himself from distance.
It was Hernanes' through ball to Palacio that resulted in the penalty and sending off of Leali.
His partnership with Mateo Kovacic in midfield is finally starting to show some promise as well.
Winner: Dodo
3 of 5
He copped his fair share of physical punishment throughout the game, but Dodo continued his upward trajectory this season with another excellent display.
The former Roma full-back has settled well into life at Inter and is often the one driving the side forward with his probing runs up the left flank.
He has been one of the Nerazzurri's best this season and was once again one of the standout players on the park in this game.
Losers: Inter's Forwards
4 of 5
This was not a poor showing from Icardi and Palacio. The Argentine pairing were actually quite lively in attack, and each created a number of chances for himself and others.
Icardi also managed to score from the penalty spot.
Sooner or later, though, Inter's forwards are going to have to start scoring from open play. The last time either one did so in the league was when Icardi managed a hat-trick against Sassuolo on September 14.
Palacio, who started the season injured, is yet to get off the mark in the league, and both he and his younger compatriot were wasteful with several opportunities against Cesena.
With Dani Osvaldo currently out with an adductor strain, one of the strikers is going to have to start contributing goals to Inter's cause.
Winner: Juan Jesus
5 of 5
Completing the trio of Brazilians who guided Inter to victory was defender Juan Jesus.
Though the Inter defence never looked entirely comfortable as a unit, Juan was uncompromising at the back all game.
He uses his physicality very well and is usually perfectly positioned, while his distribution is also top quality.
The Nerazzurri are lucky to have such a world-class centre-back to rely on.
