Clive Allen and the 5 Best Players to Represent Tottenham and Manchester City
Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur renew the shards of their rivalry this weekend. The rivalry is broken because Spurs are not doing much to make it interesting.
City beat Spurs 11-1 on aggregate in the two Premier League matches the sides played last season. Much like a hammer does not have a rivalry with a nail, City does not really focus much on Tottenham these days.
Spurs will try to erase the bitter taste of last season's voyage to the Etihad, where the Sky Blues scored six times. Put another way, City scored six more times than Spurs did.
With many of the clubs' players still returning from international duty, now is as good a time as any to comb through their respective histories to recall some of the men who wore the shirts of both clubs at different points in their careers.
5. Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor left Arsenal to join City in 2009. He played only two seasons for City, scoring 15 Premier League goals in 34 Premier League appearances for City before going out on loan to Real Madrid and then to Spurs.
Spurs acquired Adebayor for a paltry £5 million in 2012. As time goes on, you wonder whether Spurs got fleeced in that deal.
Adebayor has one goal in seven Premier League starts this season, or as many as Martin Demichelis has in three fewer starts.
4. Paul Stewart

Stewart began his Manchester City career in March 1987 after debuting with Blackpool. He scored 26 league goals for City before joining Spurs in October 1988.
Stewart went on to make 131 league appearances for Tottenham, scoring 28 goals for Spurs.
His career highlight at Tottenham was probably scoring in the 1991 FA Cup final, a match that saw Spurs lift the cup after a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.
3. Paul Walsh

It is difficult to say whether the fact that Paul Walsh was so well-traveled throughout his career is a testament to his talent or a suggestion that he was not a great teammate.
Regardless, Walsh played with seven clubs in a career that spanned from 1979 through 1997.
Walsh scored 19 times in league play for Spurs in 84 appearances. His return at City was a bit better, with 16 goals in league play from 53 appearances, despite approaching the end of his career.
2. Neil McNab

McNab is another player whose career as a player wound up, down and all around.
A midfielder, McNab wore the shirts of 14 different club teams in his long career, which spanned from 1972 to 1994.
McNab made 72 league appearances for Spurs, scoring three times. He was a very similar player at City, netting 16 goals in 221 league appearances through much of the 1980s.
1. Clive Allen

"Clive Allen was a prolific striker whose career took him to QPR, Tottenham, Manchester City and many others," it was written in the Daily Mail in 2006.
That is fair description of a man who scored 76 goals in all competitions for Spurs in four seasons.
After a brief stop-over at Bordeaux, Allen played two-and-a-half seasons at City, scoring 16 league goals in 31 appearances.
