Brazil's Neymar Becomes 5th Player with 40 Goals for the Selecao
Brazil forward Neymar scored four goals in Tuesday's friendly against Japan, leading the Selecao to a 4-0 victory in Singapore while becoming the fifth player in his country's storied history to record 40 or more goals for the national team, per ESPN Stats & Info.
The 22-year-old superstar, who entered the match with 36 career international goals, found the back of the net in the 18th, 48th, 77th and 81st minutes in his 58th career cap. Diego Tardelli, Kaka and Philippe Coutinho each had an assist, and one of the goals was unassisted.
An obvious choice for Man of the Match honors, Neymar had a rather active evening, accounting for seven of his squad's 14 shots, though only his four goals were on target. He also led Brazil in offsides (two) and fouls drawn (three).

Following an embarrassing conclusion to the World Cup, the Selecao has bounced back surprisingly strong, winning each of their four friendlies since the tournament, highlighted by Saturday's 2-0 victory over World Cup finalist and arch-rival Argentina.
Assuming he stays in good health, Neymar has a good chance to become Brazil's all-time leading scorer before he finishes his career, as Pele unsurprisingly holds the national team record of 77 goals, followed by fellow 40-goal scorers Ronaldo (62), Romario (55) and Zico (48).
Already more than halfway to the Brazilian record at the age of 22, Neymar may even make a run at 100 international goals, an achievement that has only been reached by Iranian legend Ali Daei, who retired in 2006 with 109.
