Cam Inman of The Bay Area News Group provides an update on Jimmie Ward's injury from coach Jim Harbaugh, who suggested no injury sustained on Monday's game against the Rams was significant:

Original Text:

The San Francisco 49ers were banged up in a divisional clash on Monday Night Football against the St. Louis Rams, with a notable issue being a leg injury suffered by defensive back Jimmie Ward.

Ward, the No. 30 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, left the game in the third quarter with a quad issue:

As a result, the already banged-up secondary had to make a number of adjustments, as explained by Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee:

It is a crushing blow for Ward on an individual level. He had tallied 13 total tackles on the year entering the night and NBC Bay Area noted that he was recently on the receiving end of lofty praise by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio:

"

Good. Now, he’s getting better and better every week. Like I said, he’s diligent. He’s a hard worker. He’s prideful. He’s competitive. And with those qualities, he’s going to get better and better every week. Does that mean he’s not ever going to get beat? No. Does that mean he’s going to have a game where he gives up some throws? No. But, he learns and he improves.

"

As a rookie, Ward has certainly not been without his mistakes, but now the secondary is a major issue for the team once again.

For now, the 49ers will turn to Perrish Cox and Dontae Johnson, among others, for help in a rotational capacity to help keep a defense that entered Monday as the third-best team against the pass playing strong.

It is certainly a bad time for injuries to strike the secondary, though, with a trip to see Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in the cards next week.
