Arturo Vidal Reportedly Handed Record Fine by Juventus for Late-Night Bar Fight

Nick AkermanOct 7, 2014

Arturo Vidal was conspicuous in his absence during Juventus' heated 3-2 win over Roma on Sunday. It is now being reported the Chilean midfielder's dropping didn't arise through tactical planning but due to his involvement in a bar fight on the Thursday before.

101 Great Goals translated an article from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, in which Vidal is alleged to have gotten into a skirmish during a night out in Turin. Both Gazzetta and La Stampa suggest Vidal came off worse and received a "violent blow to the back," as noted in the latter publication, via 101.

Eurosport suggested Vidal is "looking to cut ties" with Juventus after reportedly receiving a £62,000 fine for the incident, while 101 indicated the €100,000 fee is a record punishment sum at the club. Ed Malyon of the Mirror tweeted an alleged photo from the occurrence:

A common development in each report is that Vidal's long-touted, as highlighted by the Express (h/t Metro), move to Manchester United could now receive a boost. This year's summer transfer window saga rolled on without any action from the Premier League club, who desperately need a midfield destroyer to bulk up their central options.

While Ander Herrera and Daley Blind have performed well, Vidal's all-action box-to-box style of play would significantly improve the intimidation aspect of Louis van Gaal's side. Gazzetta reported that Vidal "could" now leave in January, via 101 Great Goals, but that his potential United switch will "probably" go ahead at the end of the season if not.

Eurosport also followed this line of thinking:

Vidal made an 11-minute appearances from the bench against Roma, per WhoScored.com. His presence became increasingly important when Alvaro Morata was sent off nine minutes later, as Juve managed to squeeze past an encounter which saw seven yellows and three penalties granted.

Massimiliano Allegri has deployed Vidal in five of Juventus' six Serie A matches this season, plus one of the side's two Champions League clashes. The midfielder has netted twice along his recovery to full fitness after suffering a plethora of knee injuries in recent times.

This is thought to be the reason why Van Gaal didn't make a concrete bid during the summer, but now Vidal's form is coming back, this may no longer be an obstacle.

He is undoubtedly one of the world's best when 100 percent fit. Vidal is energetic, loves to tackle and is creative. The 27-year-old is a scorer of fine goals, but he should be considered a natural warrior in the heart of midfield. If needed, he can be utilised in a centre-back role, although this overlooks his ability to run from deep. Lord knows Van Gaal could have used all of these attributes so far this season.

United fans will certainly look on in wonder. Like Wesley Sneijder before, there's a feeling the club could miss out on Vidal's best years if they don't act soon. His buckling knee will always remain a risk, but the club recently confirmed an expensive deal to bring in the equally shaky Radamel Falcao, so this shouldn't be a deterrent for long.

Allegri will be hoping Vidal returns from the international break with his head in the right place. Juventus' next fixture is away at Sassuolo on Oct. 18, so the Chilean star has plenty of time to accept his alleged fine and move on from the situation.

His ability to do so will certainly go a long way to defining the Bianconeri's results. It may also have an impact on the intensity of the gaze heading his way from Old Trafford.
