Milan Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of October 6

Anthony LopopoloOct 6, 2014

Almost a decade ago, AC Milan were prepared to get Fernando Torres. He was playing for Atletico Madrid, but even back then that club had begun to sell their star players. Milan lost out to Liverpool, but Torres never forgot.

"It is as if fate had expected me to be at San Siro," he told the magazine Panenka (h/t Football Italia). "The coming together was only delayed, because the Rossoneri have always appreciated me and finally I have arrived here."

Torres scored on his debut, but he left the field frustrated against Chievo Verona on the weekend. Now is when the test begins, as Bleacher Report's Matteo Bonetti writes. Torres needs some time to adjust to his third different league, but the goals have to come, too.

Let's look at the rest of the transfer news.

Milan 'Not Interested' in Adel Taarabt

QPR manager Harry Redknapp said nobody wanted Adel Taarabt.

Taarabt had just returned to London following a half-season loan with Milan, where he scored four goals in 16 appearances. Fans in Milan liked the excitement he brought. But the club did not pick up the option to sign the 25-year-old permanently.

"If nobody wants to pay for him, he’ll stay here," Redknapp said last week, per gianlucadimarzio.com. "I just want him in the best physical condition. He is very talented and he can make a difference here at QPR. AC Milan are not interested."

For Taarabt, the situation was tough. He had a taste of Champions League football at a big club, and he wanted more.

"That is why I wanted to move," Taarabt said, per the Evening Standard. "Not because I do not want to be at QPR, because it was a big opportunity for me.

"I was in the middle of a transfer and it did not happen for whatever reasons."

Diego Lopez Still the Starter

Christian Abbiati says he wants to play until he's 40. He is 37 now and is still playing as a goalkeeper for AC Milan, the club he joined in 1998.

He has started four games this season, but he conceded he is not guaranteed a spot in goal.

"The pecking order in goal is very clear," he told Sky Sport (h/t gianlucadimarzio.com). "Diego Lopez is a great goalkeeper and a good guy, I think that he's the starter."

Abbiati has kept one clean sheet and made 10 saves so far in Serie A.
